I think that's awesome but...

I don't mean to be negative but there are some embelished facts that are given in the article.

"the 11.000 kilometers of roads covered
with ice and snow that they will drive on"

In early April? Maybe in Northern BC and Alaska, but certainly not for 11,000km, not even in the dead of winter.

Not sure what the temp is in Dead Horse in April, but -36 C seems a bit extreme.

I think just driving from Venezula to Houston would be the best part of the trip, but they're starting from Houston.

Anyhow, I wish I was doing it :)

Ammiga,

I agree, I meerly translated the article.
They have shipped their LCs (2 FZJ80s and 1 FJ62) from Venezuela to Houston. They sent me some pics of their rigs just before departing.

We will catch up with them later next month when they pass through California.

Don't mean to knock a excuse for a road trip but Houston to Deadhorse could be done in less than 100 hours...............42 days give me a break, my dad can drive a semi from deadhorse to anchorage in 24 hrs and has done so many times, this past May I drove a honda civic from anchorage to Omaha in about 56 hrs...................deadhorse to the bottom tip of south america now that sounds bad ass to me??????????????

Any ideas on when they'll hit Moab? Our club will be down there the weekend of the 12th.

sure it could be done in less than 100 hrs, but what's the fun in that?

I think the goal is to wheel in between the (boring) highway trips...see the sights, etc.

Didn't that lady from the UK take her 70 series further North (in Canada)during the middle of the winter? Having made the trek to Deadhorse (from Utah) I can say that PR is an important thing. I was there in May and it was very straight forward and mostly mud and dirt. Think they would let me tag along back to VZ?

I remember that article. It looked more springish than winter. The snow was melting in the pics.

I'm really hoping to hear from her about some coverage of that journey for Trails.

Looks like a cool trip.

These guys rolled through Salt Lake City yesterday afternoon. I saw them out my office window flipping a u-turn. I tried to get outside to track them down but they were through the stoplight before I could catch them.

-36C at deadhorse is not uncommon. Neither is colder. But driving to Deadhorse is just a matter of driving up the road. Loose all the hype by the uninformed writer of the article and it is a bit "ho-hum". Neat trip, but not a cutting edge adventure.

The trip as a whole sounds neat though.

If they are planning to get off of the roads up here and explore/sightsee/use their rigs a little, then they are too early. Most trails will still be snowed in and thiose that aren't will be still undergoing breakup (extremely muddy conditions). Most rivers will still be high from snow melt and will have ice ledges from overflow. There may be a couple of well used places that they could visit. If anyone here is in contact with them, let 'em know they can call if they need a hand while in the area or if they want a guide on or evaluation of any of the trails that might be suitable that time of year.
