Extra space and connectors in 2000 TLC

Have a stock 2000 Land Cruiser in New England area.

I noticed some nice extra space in the engine bay behind the power steering reservoir and below the wiper arm motor.

What's that space reserved for?

What are the 4 extra unused connectors in that space for?

Just in front of the passenger side? If so, that's where the pump for the Lexus LX470 suspension is mounted.

I appreciate the fast response to my very first post!

I can see a few mounting holes pre-drilled in the sheet metal. I'll have to take a peek under the hood of somebody's LX.

I am interested in adding an air compressor and/or backup battery solution in this space. It is simply begging to be used for something. We spend a lot of time in the summer on the beach, and it would be nice to not have to wait in line for the hoses at the air station in the parking lot.

I hope to find a definition for the 4 spare connectors. Maybe they could be useable to control the pump from switches inside the cabin. It looks like 3 of the 4 go to the bundle that already runs into the firewall.

The Toyota factory manuals are no help at all. They don't mention the Lexus option. And they don't have a good connector locator & ID map section.


I am curious about why Toyota would leave these connectors uncapped and exposed to the water and road salt.

We will have the battery tray (or mounting platform for compressor) pretty soon. Going in production this week.
