to the bros who eat, drink and breathe landcruisers,
i just bought a 1991 PZJ70 :D and have noticed that the temperature increases to the point where it gets close to the upper white line when i run my AC, it gradually comes down when i turn it off. my first guess was that the thermostat was out but i drove all last week without the AC and the temp has been maintained at normal. i'm guessing if i attach a cooling fan to the front of the radiator to turn on with the AC it should help with keeping the temp down. is this a reasonable approach to the problem? i have been told that the AC was installed at the factory so why would toyota put it in and not improve the cooling capacity for the engine? can there be other factors that might be contributing to the problem, the guy before me had filled the radiator with tap water  which i replaced before i started driving it. i don't want to add the fan and find out that i should have done something else. let me know what you all think and we'll go on from there.
thanks

Check the fan as they have a liquid coupling..Forget its name. Hydrostatic??
The fluid gets hot and makes the fan run with the engine..
When its cooler, it free spins and doesn't pull the air thru,

I noticed that mine would engage when the A/C was on for a wee while.

Mine has drag on it when you turn it (engine off)

If it spins freely, get it checked out.

hey,
the only fan that is there is the cooling fan which turns on and off with the engine ... it does not turn freely when rotated.
