So I decided to replace the U joints in my XJ driveline. I pressed in the first U joint, and found it was tighter than it should be. I now know about tapping it to un-bind it, but two hours ago I didn't. Figuring I had ruined the U joint, I tried to press it back out. Press out one way, remove cap, check. Press out the other way, U-joint goes sideways and gouges the bore. I -think- I can take a dremel to the gouge, it is right at the entry to the bore toward the center of the yoke. I have to take the little ridge of metal off just to get the bearing out now. Would the driveline still be useable? Any suggestions?

(yes I should have stuck to wrenching on the pig, but then again its probably easier to find a replacement xj driveline. call it an expensive practice run.)

Dremel it out, then mix up some jb weld when you go to put it back together. Fill the hole and press the joint in. It will fill the gap and not allow the bore to distort as much once it cures out.

My grandfather used to tell me it's better to hammer them in and out, less chance of bending the yokes or screwing something up that way.

I still hammer them in and out to this day. Seems to work better for me that way.

Just go down PNP and get one out of the many cherokars that are sitting there.
