So I thought I'd share some Taco pics with you guys to give back a bit and to get your feedback and opinions.

A good friend of mine came to the Expedition Ops shop for a visit and within hours we had pulled the broken rolling tonneau cover and decided to build him a rear bumper. His truck bed is getting a drawer/storage system put into it in the very near future and water system... This truck is an overland style build and relatively early in the build process.

Here is a link to the Facebook page with all the images. I'd love to hear your opinions, this is a prototype and will be refined in the future builds. I already have some changes to make personally, ie. dual swingout instead of single, better integration of Hi-Lift mount, swingout stops reduced in size and relocated, tube rear quarter protection, and a chamfer to the bottom of the bumper... you guys know how it goes.

I like the jerry can mount. Is that a catalog or custom job? I'd like one for my spare tire carrier.

My spare tire carrier is centered over my tailgate so I'd probably have to mount one on each side somehow. I like the look of this though. I'm contemplating an auxiliary gas tank where the spare used to be mounted, so I may be on the fence about this for a while. Nice work though. Great looking carrier. I find that mine makes my truck feel like I'm driving around with an NFL linebacker on my tailgate. And it rattles over every bump. I may have to modify my latches to address the annoying rattle.

well that's better than having a nose tackle riding on the back :D

doesn't look like there is anyplace to attach the trailer's safety chains to...

no light on the license plate...

otherwise, it looks good. You might want to take some better pictures of it however...

BKFJ40,

You are correct, we didn't drill into the gussets bracing the reciever for the trailer safety chains. Towing wasn't a priority for John, but the reciever was. He will drill the holes when/if he decides to tow. John is adding illuminated license plate LED bolts to the bumper and backup lights. I would love some better pictures of the bumper. That is now at the whim of John in Colorado, since I am still in MPLS.

Thanks for the feedback. Great looking Pig by the way, always loved those.

Impact testing!

Johnny tested the bumper just recently. Colorado roads, as well as the rest of the US it seems, were nice and slippery. He wound up doing a 270+/- and slammed into a guard rail right at the rear quarter protection. Success, the guard rail was in bad shape and Johnny's truck was in great shape. He reports no bending or damage aside from scuffed paint!

Needless to say, I'm very proud of the bumper we built.

Thanks,

Jeremy
