Catfish eat anything, usually other fish. They grainfeed farm raised catfish? Weird.

Lobster, skrimps, and crabs are the roaches and vultures of the sea. Those bastards are all tasty as hell.

Well I guess the grain I'm talking about is like dogfood, so it has some variant of meat/animal fat in it.

I love me some skrimps.
 
the thing with gator tail is that it has to be fresh, that **** will turn like fish if it's not. But when it is, it's good.

Not too exotic but something most people refuse to eat is barracuda. I would consider it to be among my top three fish to eat, maybe even top two, very light and not fishy at all.

Fresh gator is the only way I will eat it. I will only eat it the day it is killed.

I can't stand the smell of barracuda.

I think the reason people pass on the barracuda is because they don't want to get ciguatera.

That is probably true. There is a kit you can buy called Cigu-Check that takes about an hour for the results to come back. We used to use it in the Bahamas on grouper.



Sparkplug, where the heck did you eat those things? Vacation? Military? In my younger days, I would have been willing to try anything, but now I seek simple meals.

I have eaten the animals on vacation and at work (I run sportfishing boats in different places throughout the world). The bugs I have eaten at the insectaruim in New Orleans. They have like 4 local famous chefs rotate cooking up the bugs and they are free.

that is the main reason, the phobia is so widespread to the point where I won't even tell people what it is anymore when I make it. It's the same with Escolar, alot of people fear getting sick from it but it is awesome.

Escolar is the bomb. I pan sear it with crushed macadamia nuts and rare in the middle. The key is to not eat too much. The natural oil in the fish will give you some serious runs.

I have also tried raccoon one time. Soaked in Dr. Pepper and barbecued. I took one bite and spit it out. I think the chef forgot to take some glands out of the back of the coon's legs.

I love Bizarre foods on the Travel Channel and that show always makes me hungry. No Reservations is a good show as well. I was in Indonesia and my wife called me and told me about an episode of Bizarre Foods she had just seen with the cobra blood. I asked the local taxi driver to take me there but to stop and get a six pack first. I have some video of me playing with the cobra and python I ate. The cobras were still alive and full of venom and the python bit me on my lip. I may be able to pull some clips of the heads being chopped off and me consuming the blood and heart but I have always had a hard time making movie clips and getting them on the web.
 
I think you're talking about fish meal...

Farm raised catfish are fed a floating fishmeal. The catfish have to rise to feed which keeps them from eating the muck at the bottom of the pond.

I think of all the farm raised fish in the market, catfish is the best. It's really a great tasting fish.

I would think that after awhile the fish food would sink. My wife's mother has a pond in her backyard and I take my kids back there to feed the fish. It floats and then it sinks. Maybe it is a different kind of fish food, I don't know. Also it seems that after feeding time the catfish would still suck stuff off of the bottom. I am not trying to be an ass, just my thoughts. I have no proof.
 
Nothing as exotic as Sparkplug, the common unusual N.American hunting fare like squirrel, coon, possum.. Have yet to have any wild game I didn't like...

Oddest would probably be a jar of pickled deer heart given to us by a old farmer's wife... Like anything else pickled it taste like it, a very sweet pickling, very odd consistency tho compared to other meat....
 
Goat can be hit or miss. In the Caribean, I had some great goat curry. In the US, I had some Indian goat cuisine, and man, I had to hit the can pronto. It felt like I was blowing out the goat horns, too!

Now, I just pass on the goat.
 
Fried guinea pig in S. America. It was served in a spicy sauce that was tasty. The meat was rather greasy and a bit stringy. It looked like the pic below. Looking at the pic right now it makes me want to hurl, but at the time I was starving in a remote mountain region and that was all that was available. Needles to say, I snarfed it down like nobody's business, holding it's cute little paw like a drum stick. :popcorn:

Guinea Pig (cuy) rocks. Its usally roasted or baked stuffed with herbs or basted in a peanut-type sauce. The ones I ate while in Peru were never fried like that, and generally had the head removed. But you could always tell when you got the one you had stepped on a few weeks previous and broken it's leg as it was crooked when on your plate (raised running around on the floor). A full one is a delicacy as they take ~8-9 months to get big enough to eat. They are usually split between two people. The bones are halfway between fish and chicken. Some people crunch them down. Just paws and a spine left over. I didn't. Meat was pretty tasty. :cheers:
