Which is the one that cracks on the 100 series??? 2000 model. It is on a friends 100 - i hear a ticking noise coming from the drivers side front that goes away when the truck heats up.......
not much to go on, but any suggestiongs....

I used to have that noise too and it goes away when the engine heats up.. the manifold was not cracked, it turned out that the engine cover was making that noise.. check that by pushing against the cover when you hear the noise, hopefully it won't be the manifold :)

well, since we had the engine cover off at the time and it still made the noise....i am guess exhaust manifold.......
Can a exhaust place pin point it for sure??

there is a tsb on it so if he has extended warranty he could get it replaced for free.

cool....i will ask him....
cheerio....

if he does not have extended warrenty - how hard is this to change out?? Is it harder than changing out the starter??

wouldnt know, got it replaced under warranty two years ago. Gibson might make us aftermarket headers if someone in cali would just give them their truck for a week or two.

The "ticking when cold" symptom sounds like exhaust manifold, and not the intake.

One tech told me sometimes it's not a cracked manifold. He said the exhaust manifold gasket sometimes gets pushed away from the block by thermal cycling, corrosion and bits of rust and causes the leak.

Search the archives on this topic for a summary on how hard the repair is. It's in here somewhere.

Right side is easier to replace than the left (which might require removal of steering column).

But why bother sweating through potential broken maniofold bolts and rust in the eyes? Exhaust manifold is included under emissions warranties for most states. California's warranty is most gracious. How many miles on your friend's Cruiser? It might be covered.
