Equal Tire Balancer Problems

In my experience the Hunter is awesome. If you had it done with that machine and the problem returned quickly then my guess is the tires have some defect.

This looks like it would be worth checking out. Take a look at the videos too.

www.centramatic.com

This looks excellent if you were driving a semi. I don't think there's enough room between my rim and brake drum to fit the Centramatic in.

I was also considering the Equal product since I need to get new tires. The https://www.expeditionexchange.com/equal/ page recommends "Each 6 oz. bag of Equal will balance one 8.25 R16 or 35x12.5 sized tire."

On my current worn out BFG Muds 12.5x35 the lead balancers are:
RF 2.5 oz
LF 6.25 oz
RR 7.5 oz
LR 4.5 oz
spare 5oz (32/11.5 size)

Looking at those figures I'd go with the 8oz bag for these size tires. Also shows how much variation the tires and rims do have. Looks like the bigger the tire the harder it is for the manufacturer to keep things perfect.

The Equal solution looks like the right thing for a passenger truck if you get enough in there and the right valve stems with filters. Just a guess- might just need to make sure that your stems are at the highest position when deflating. Blowing in a little air sounds like the right thing to do.

I'll correct myself here after reading their FAQ more carefully.
http://www.expeditionexchange.com/equal/FAQ.htm
"Tires balanced with Equal require smaller amounts of Equal to achieve a superior balance. The reason for this is because Equal operates at the very periphery of the tire's diameter. Lead weights have to operate at the diameter of the rim, and thus cannot operate as efficiently as Equal does."

Also "Each bag of Equal comes complete with one AirX Filtered Valve Core and a metal sealing valve stem cap for a complete and proper installation."

I think I'm going to give it a try. For $40 for a lifetime balance- sounds like a good deal to me.

I'm replacing the current 35/12.5R15 with 33/10.5R15 and will need to go from the current 10" rim to an 8". So it's an all new set of wheels for me.
