Hey Fats

try these,

I have used some of their maps for Oregon trips. They mostly take you through forest roads and I don't believe any of the routes are hard core 4x4 if that is what you are looking for.
General info
Oregon Off-Highway Vehicle Association

The routes and maps here
Back Country Maps

One bit of info, the scale they use gives you very high topo detail per page and do have a lot of GPS coords on them which is good, but there isn't much area per page so you are constantly driving off the map and turning pages.

Good question, I'm in the same "boat"

Looking for places to explore...

Steen's Mountain area looks interesting...

Where are you ?

I'm in the Apllegate Valley area Westr of Medford, South of Gts. Pass

hey bohemian i am just in Jacksonville not far from you at all!

IMHO..Sounds like if you're in Jacksonville you might consider hooking up with Jefferson State Cruisers, maybe pm 2ndGenToyotaFan , WristPin, etc. There's a ton of friends and family I have in the area, all are connected in some way to the group there. There's a few places to play, options range from fire road permits to some pretty fun little trails anywhere from Ruch, Applegate, Williams, to Grants Pass, Lost Creek, Prospect, etc. Just be sure if unsure about access to a road or trail to politely ask as not all is cordoned off, and there are some places where a gun still speaks loudly.

You may even recognize this spot should you ever take a coast trip..

*The eastern parts really interesting also, you don't expect all that stuff after being in the mid-valley! :D

I should have been more specific given that you are in J'Ville

I am in Williams,,, home of tye dye and "agriculture"

I was through J'Ville Tuesday on my way to Costco , Les Scwabs and a few other tire stores .. shopping

I have a near virgin 2000 4 Runner that will see new duty as my sometime off roader O'erlander.. now that I have sold my Toyota 4X4 pickup and bought an 08 Highlander.. this one will serve me fine with a few simple mods and some decent tires.. 150 K and looks near new. Need to break it in.

I like to explore... expedition rather than exhibition.

when i want to explore an unfamiliar area i look first at geological formations, historical locations and fishing. i dont specifically look for car camping or off roading i just look at those 3 things that most interest me and make my own routes.

one place of interest to look up is crack in the ground, near christmas valley. the second pic is about 70ft below the surfcace

Thanks RHINO

My interests are historical locations, geologic formations, aboriginal hangouts and unusual wildlife and plant life ( rare trees)

That's one heck of a crack !

One of the things that I do faor a living is paint fish.....

You have not explored Oregon unless you have made a trip to the Steens and the Alvord desert!

oh yeah, i saw most of that on a long fishing trip where i explored and fished many waterholes. did you know the playa at alvord holds the womens world speed record? she was as high as 600mph but the official speed was clocked at 524mph.

i really like the volcanic landscapes in that whole region.

I have a few places and articles for anyone interested on these pages....

In Search of History

Active & Abandoned Railroads of the Pacific Northwest

Unfortunately, things have changed for me lately and I'm spending far more time at home working the railroad in my spare time and generally doing only relatively local research trips. Also, I have thousand of pictures and probably a dozen articles I still need to get working on for the site as it's languished.

So much to do and definately not enough time! Oregon is an awesome place to explore, though!

Thank you for that post and your website. I can't wait to get back to Oregon and start exploring again. I spent the first 23 years of my life there and I haven't seen 2% of our great state. Hopefully the BS that the east coast is dealing with out here doesn't work its way out west. It is going to take me forever to go thru your whole website.
