I've been wondering whether an air tank would fit behind a winch - thought it would be either or...

Nice work!

Thanks. I have a 1" body lift, so that helps a bit with clearance of valve, but until I actually mount I won't know for sure. The tank clears with no issues. I mounted the valve so as not to increase air up times by having the compressor fill up the tank as well.

Nice work, canman.I really like how you tucked the Viair tank in there.

I had only one minor concern. In one pic you show the back of the winch with the three cables attached with brassy looking lugs to the various inputs. Maybe it's just the angle, but it looks like if the top lug of the two that are closest together was to loosen, it could rotate down and contact the lug below it. It's probably fine, but I like to arrange things so that there is a soft failure most likely and not something that would start smoking

Thanks again. Yes, I agree and will double check that wire. I did put two layers of high quality heat shrink around each lug just to ensure that nothing accidentally rubs or pokes through. It is difficult to see, but I had to solder and re-drill the holes in all the lugs as they were originally 3/8" dia and everything from Superwinch is 5/16". I just didn't want those lugs getting loose. I even had to put a radius on the lugs for the two wires you are speak of because they were only 1-2 mm from the winch body. In the end I probably use some Locitite threadlocker on all the electrical studs.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I mounted the bumper yesterday, and the valve handle was interfering slightly with the lower grill valence, but I just pushed it down a bit and it now clears. I also measured a few things that I thought might be useful for others.

1. Weight of steel cable (21/64" x 100') was 18 lbs vs 3.8 lbs for the 5/16" x 100' of Masterpull syn line.

2. Vehicle height measured to bottom of RF fender flare was 35.375" pre bumper/ winch install (no factory bumper) and dropped to 35" after install. I have the OEM heavies installed along with 1" Slee spacers and have 315s.

Cut out a hole for my shackle mount. Hope to have the other one finished tomorrow and both welded in. There isn't going to be much clearance between the shackle and the bumper though, but I did see the new Bubba rope Gator-Jaw soft shackle that might be nice, but I don't like the lime green colour. Also, I'm debating as to whether or not I should cut off the stk ARB tow points.

The ARB loops/tie-down points aren't really up to towing or such. So they can seem useless. I suspect that flange they're part of is part of the bumper's reinforcement. So I'd be inclined to keep them. And you could reinforce the area by welding on additional metal, which could cover up the hole for a smoother look.

To make room for my fog lamps, I've decided to relocate the ARB "signal" lights to the side wings.

A couple more pics. Now the fun starts with welding everything back in.

Nice work on the ARB light mod. The factory shoulda done it.

Welded in the plates today. Still some grinding left to do.

Been somewhat delayed with health issues and unusually cold weather the last two months. Bringing it to the local "blacksmith" on Saturday to have the shackle mounts welded in professionally. We're going for a club run on Sunday, so I hoping it to have mounted so I can try it out.

Had the shackles welded in this morning. Reinstalled the tank, winch, and my Lightforce lights. I still have lots to finish but, surprising the winch works perfectly after sitting I think for almost 4 years. I'm sure it's going to be used a lot tomorrow.

Some pics after our club run. Amazing how quickly the bare steel rusts. Winch got a good workout today. My buddy's winch was hooked to my rear recovery point and I was attached to a tree about 150 ft away trying to climb a hill. In the end we gave up, as it was going to probably take us another 1-2 hrs to make it to the top.

Cut out a hole using my plasma cutter with a simple jig for some fog lights. The lights are off a Pontiac I got from a pick-n-pull. It took a lot of grinding to get the hole round but it looks pretty good. I just have to add a bit off weld on one side after I went too far trying to cut some of the slag off with the plasma. I'm hoping to have this wrapped up in the next week or two incl sand blasting and paint.

Nice work, I like it.

So that's what a Canadian ARB looks like?

I mean, all the ones I've seen have the two turn light locations towards the outside of the front of the ARB. Yours has what looks like maybe welded in patches there, but with marker lamp locations on the backwards extension toward the wheelwell. Maybe previously modified? Or is that the industrial model or whatever they call the special order one here in the States?

It's the Canuck limited special edition - eh.

After a lot of work and swearing, I finally finished sand blasting this beast. Plan to paint tomorrow.

Got a couple coats of some self etching primer on last week. Just a few touch-ups left and the final top coats. I hope to gave everything done and installed this weekend.

Finished painting it this afternoon. Will likely install this finally tomorrow.

Finally got this thing on. Still have to wire up the fog lights, but I like how the side marker lights turned out.
