No flaming necessary. Ill still offer a pat on the back and congratulations for getting this far and like you said at least you know where to look and focus energies.

Thanks. Yes, we cut out a good hours worth of diagnosis using my pictures and knowing what I had done.

And the tech was very relived to find the issue so fast.

I am guessing that this might become a new "something to know" for engines this old.

Beno, I will as soon as I get things corrected.

Bad news today. After the maiden voyage, I started her up and got a misfire.

Traced it to #5 cylinder and this morning the tech confirmed that the #5 injector is not firing. There is an intermittent short in the engine harness. It failed the wiggle test.

Yes, this is the exact spot that I had to repair and has been a concern ever since I saw the condition of the wire. My guess is that my attempt to repair was not good enough.

I showed the tech the picture I took before my repair.

So now I am waiting. I should be "flamed" for not getting a new harness...

:hmm:

:flipoff2:

It's never too late ;)

Update... The short resulted in damaging a portion of the ECM that controlled #5 injector. I got a rebuilt ECM from cruiserparts (Big Thanks) and installed it last night.

The moons are aligned now and she is purring like a kitten.

To wrap up the money side... I spent about 7k in parts and labor. 1.5k was in pure labor.

Beno, thanks!

I will install the special tag over the weekend.

Transplant almost done. Going into post op soon.

The tech mentioned how much of a challenge it was to get the block and the transmission to align. Unlike domestics, this tranny and engine had to line up perfectly with the splines to install.

And, of course, a few select words about how the radiator mounts to the frame...:bang:
I absolutely hate how the radiator mounts to the core support at least the horizontal points..

Thats exactly what I do now when I tear them down haha... It makes life MUCH easier....

After pulling the oil pan and checking the noise, the mechanic determined the the rod knock like sound is actually the power steering gearbox check valve. We replaced that and sure enough the knocking it gone.

So now the question is what to do with the engine. I have a brand new short block.

Should I sell the new block or install it and sell the used block?
Old thread - but a good one. Pardon the newbie question but where is the check valve on the power steering gearbox? The OP's mechanic traced the issue to it but I wasn't aware they had a check valve?
