One of the teachers at my son's school recently purchased a 1999 100 series. They reached out to let me know the engine blew and they're evaluating their options. Not sure of the specifics.

I referred them to Murf at Camelback, but also said I'd reach out to see if anyone had any other suggestions.

Thanks,
Richard

I went through this a few months back to help someone out, they ended up going the junkyard motor route and having their mechanic do the install (it was an 04 with 200k) for about $3k including a new tbelt and water pump.

If the truck is nice and they plan on keeping it forever, a rebuild via Murf will likely pay off in the long run. If the truck is not so nice, the rebuild can potentially be more $ than the truck is worth.

If they want to unload it and move on, I might be interested. Looking for a stock 100 series for my mom to drive.

Estimate of $3k for an engine replacement is spot on, although mine was a LC 80 not a 100. Had the engine replaced recently by local mechanic in my 1996 LC 80 for $2,260 plus as few "extras" like the Knock Sensor to bring final bill to nearly $3. Didn't want to mess around with a rebuild (not knowing how extensive / expensive the work would be - fear of future issues), since this is my "forever LC", opted for a completely remanufactured engine.

I just joined the forum, and this is my LC, not my wife's, LOL. Don't tell her that, LOL. This really helps, I appreciate it.

Ha. Duly noted. She told me "we got a Land Cruiser." ;)

How many miles on the engine when it went out ?

Not sure how this plays into it but remember the super charger sold by Toyota for the 4.7 V8 should not be used in the US produced vehicles(Tundra/Sequoia). Not sure about the 4Runner engine but it was made in Japan. Best to know all the facts before making a decision on which way you go. If you go the wrecking yard route non Japanese engines are not as heavy duty.
