Recently my motor had trouble idlinig without quitting (2f, holley 500). It runs great, but would just quit at idle, and not all the time only sometimes. Gave it the once over, but what fixed the problem was a simple cleaning and lubing of all the linkages and cables. That was about three weeks ago. Today it quit again while it idled down as I turned a corner, and had a hard time starting back up. Any ideas?

A few guys at work thought maybe the vacuum advance. Another thought low idle fuel mixture. I've never been confident in the Holley, but when all is well, it runs really good, and still does as long as it does not have to idle. Too much other stuff on the list before the carb gets replaced. I need to do some trouble shooting here. Where should I start?

You have a manual for the Holley? Do a search online and find out how to tune it correctly. Maybe its time to rebuild the carb or use some carb cleaner.I don't know what would be more important than a good tuned carb on your list besides brakes. With the price of gas the carb in my opinion is worth the expense. If you still have all the smog hardware there, I would look for a used toyota carb on ebay and rebuild it yourself if you want to do it cheap. You getting decent mileage? 2-3 mpg more can make a big difference over the year.

I have the same problem with my Holley. After it warms up it just dies below 1600 RPM. Let it sit for a little while and it is fine again. Frustrating. This all started after I installed a new fuel filter. Otherwise runs great until I try to climb a steep hill. I have heard there are remedies for that as well. I have a stock carb I am going to try but need to get all the pieces together first. I am interested what others might say could be causing this problem with the Holley though.

I've got a manual, although it is not very good as far as a tune up goes, it focuses more on rebuilds. I'll do some internet searchinig for tune up and troublshooting tips. What ticks me off is that the carb was new when I did my rebuild, about 17K ago. It really runs like a top, except for this idle BS, which has been a problem lately. I am now completely desmogged and have looked into a non-usa carb from Jim C., but if I can get this problem resolved, there are other things that need to get done too. If not, I toss the POS Holley and contact Jim.
