So my dream truck, 2014 Tundra Crewmax TRD, blew the head gasket at 130,000 miles. Lithia had been the only shop to touch the motor so I stuck with them for the HG job and had both HG’s replaced. Got the truck back and thought I was gtg. But, 50290 miles later the HG blew on the other side of the motor. Lithia said “not our problem, we did everything by the book.” Their repair recommenation was to replace the motor. Not even redo the HG, replace the motor.
I was skeptical so went to our companies mechanic for a second opinion. They had no problem doing the hg job given the head and block were straight. When they finally got to the job I got a call, “you need to come see this.” When the Lithia tech did the job he or she used the wrong bolt and busted a threaded boss on the motor. Additionally the shop owner told me the tech had not installed the coolant manifold properly which likely led to the hg failure.
As soon as Lithia saw the photos of the botched job their first response was, “not our problem. Looks like your mechanic busted it and we aren’t liable for their work.” I pointed out the discoloration of the material on the block and the oil stains inside the cracks and asked them how a truck that hasn’t men driven or started since going to the mechanic is showing obvious signs of use over time. They said “Not our problem.” I told them if that was their final opinion then I would be forced to have the courts decide. Suddenly it was “well, we need to have our techs look at this. We will get back to you Wednesday.”
That was a week and a half ago and they are not returning voicemails or emails. Looks like I am going to have to go to court over something that is 100% on them. Ridicules when all I am asking for is the block repaired that is going to run about $7k.
Anyone ever taken a large dealer to court? How did that go?
