I'm trying to figure out the most optimal plan to upgrade the electronics/accessory setup so I wanted to get some input from the ones who already did work on their rigs.
What equipment did you use? What would you do different if you had to do it again?
I just want to open up this cluster once and get everything done so I don't have remove trim over and over again later.
Current condition:
All stock, non-nav. My wonderful OEM head unit is turning on may be every other time at best and only if you smack it hard enough. Which at the time of the vehicle purchase was a good thing since it seem to have added to a price discount

What I am looking for:
- Install decent replacement head unit with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay support - I have a couple of JVC units in my eBay watch list so that's probably what I will get.
I had installed Chinese Android H/Us in my other cars but I am not too impressed (weird app issues, GPS lock issues). I also wanted to have CD player option so I rather go with brand name unit for this setup.
- GMRS radio - I see guys using ashtray slot to mount mini units directly (Midland MXT115 or similar). Is this a better option or should I go with something like BaoFeng hand held? What is the distance difference if I use hand held vs. stationary mounted one? I understand it all depends on terrain so just as an idea?
- Dash camera - even though it is not a part of the cluster I still need to get power for it as neat as possible. Is it possible to pickup 12V from overhead lights cluster?
- Tablet to run navigation app - I have Garmin inReach so I have Earthmate maps available as a part of subscription. I am looking to setup something like ipad mini or similar size Android tablet.
- 2nd row USB outlets - my GX has this panel in a back of center console with volume controls and head phone jacks. Similar to the one below but without AC controls. I'd like to replace it with couple QC USB charging outlets for kids to charge their stuff and charge other gadgets.
