Ok not as far along on this as I had hoped but since I hate all this wring crap I shouldn't be supprised. My buddy came down who is a 12v master and helped me put together my wiring diagrams and shoping list for all the odds and ends.
I headed out for lunch and then some shoping. Now I always try to support local shops but damn thay want to much money for connectors and stuff. I was getting 4 battery terminal 1 ground blocka nd 150 amo circuit breaker and they wanted $270 bones!!! needless to say I decided to order it all on ebay for $63.00 so that stuff will be here wednesday.
Anyway here is the list, battery isolator, optima, fuse block, inverter (1000w), viair 460 compressor w tank and 105psi switch, 6 lights, 3 additional 12v plugs, tool box vent with filter, arb switches, and a partition to keep my tool boxes from getting into the electrical stuff. Here are some pics.

The fuse block will go next to the isolator and the box vent and circuit breaker for the isolator will go above the compressor.
You can see in the secon pic the partition I put in. I got apiece of scrap from the steel yard for $3.00 and fabed it up. The battery mount we made bolts down throught he bed floor securing that whole side of the box.
Hopefully I will have it all wired up friday night so more pics to come.

Ok so here is where we left off.

Here is the battery isolator and fuse block wired up

Here is the compressor and invertor wired. Notice the circuit breaker for the invertor in the top corner. it's 150 amp Also the relays for off road lights.

Here is a top view of it all complete with compressor pressure switch and battery terminals.
P7220168.jpg

Here is the mess coming out the back of the box there are grommets now.
P7220162.jpg

And here is is going through the bed. This happens behing the box so it's out of the way.

Oh here is apick from the tail gate with the air tank mounted.

Here is where the loom comes up from the frame and into the cab. The red wires in the fire wall ar to and from the battery isolator from the alt to the main battery.

Here is a shot of the passengers side dash. Air guage with on/off switch battery monitor red switch selects battery. 3 black switches for offroad lights. As you can see the radio was removed. for something better

Here is a larger look at the dash.

A closer look at something better then a radio!!!

There is a 12v outlet in the box which you can't see in the pics. I still have to wire up my 2 arb switches and add 2 12v plug ins to the cab but then it's done. I have used cable clamps to mount all harnesses to frame of fire wals to secure them. I think it is turning out very good so far. I plan on redoing my wiring diagrams and getting them laminated and mounted inside the top of the tool box lid.

Very nice install...you clearly put a lot of thought and work into it. With that much time, effort, and expense, it seems a shame to have selected a battery isolator that throws away so much power. Perhaps a project for another time.

Well it was one area I skimped for now. I am on a dead line for trip. Didn't have alot of time to study isolators and that one was in the garage so I used it. When I upgrade my alternator in a few months I will reevaluate the isolator.

Any suggestions on a better unit?

Cool setup.

Love how you have kept everything together neatly in the box.

I'm planning on redoing my electrical system soon in a similar manner. My plans include a O-ring sealed box under the bonnet for the winch solenoids, fuseblock, circuit breakers and relays. On the dash I will get a aluminium panel made for the switches with the switch names engraved in the panel. The panel will be hinged and/or Dzus fastened for easy trailside access.

I hope you plan on covering your loom with split loom/convoluted tubing/spiral wrap. Having wires rub through is not good. I noticed you said you fitted grommets to the holes but extra insulation is needed throughout on a fourby due to the extreme terrain we drive in.

My vote for a isolator would be a voltage sensitive solenoid similar to an ARB/Sure Power Smart Solenoid. Fully automatic, less voltage drop than a diode type isolator and safe to use on computer controlled cars.

Thanks for the compliments. It was a major project. OF course that has been the theme for the whole month. I already did a suspension assembly. OME was easy up front but since the rear leafs were longer then stock I had to cut off the old spring hangers, fab new ones and locate them in the correct spot..

The main harness is taped about every 16" and it is fit inside a split loom. The lom is tied to the chassis using large coated cable clamps.

Friday we will start tearing down both axles. The last major outfitting is the new 4.88 gears and dual ARB lockers. and fiting 33x10.50 tires

Things going to be like a new truck LOL!

Good to hear that you've split loomed the harness. :bounce:

I cringe every time I see a fourby with unprotected wiring, no matter how good the rest of the wiring is.

Do you have a part number/manufacturer's name for your fuse block?

What about some close up pics (or links) of the fuse block to show some detail?

Still trying to get people to buy your stuff, huh Scott. This post was a new low for you. The guy has done an excellent job on his set up and he has obviously spent a lot of time and money acquiring components. He and his 12v friend did an excellent installation. Why in the world do you feel it necessary to criticize his selection of the Sure Power unit?

You are truly a discredit to 'Mud and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Nullifer,
Scott (mobi-arc) tries to sell a competing product to the Sure Power isolator you selected. His product is over-priced and over-hyped. He has used dozens of posts here on 'Mud to run down every competing product any time he has a chance. He will also try to hi-jack your thread to tell everyone how great his product is. From what I have observed, nobody here on 'Mud has bought and installed one yet so whatever he is doing isn't working.

IMHO, you have done a great job. I recently completed a similar project; dual batteries, isolator, heavy gauge wiring to the rear, air tank, air compressor, etc. Your work is 10x better than what I did and I can appreciate the time and money you have invested.

Nice job.

Wow thanks for the props. Honestly on the isolator it's as I said "it was there". I'm sure that that unit will work fine long term. It is not rated for enough amps to handle a big alt which is why it will eventually get changed.

Your right there is a lot of expense in undertaking a project this size. I think the first time someone does a big job like this you kind of fool yourself into thinking ok I got all the big parts I'm ready. Then you get to break out the wallet on al the little crap like relays, connectors. battery terminals, wire, grommets, loom, zip ties, tape, etc. It is amazing how that crap all adds up.

I guess I have about $1500 -$1700 in the whole thing including the navigation sysem. I haven't added it up and honestly do not want to LOL! It's just the cost of doing things right.

Of course I will have alot more then that in the axles when those are done next week. Thank god I'm almost done building this rig. I don't think my wallet can take much more LOL! once I get past the axles it's primarily just some little outfitting stuff nothing major.

The fuse block is a blue sea unit. A marine fuse block 12 blade. I got it off ebay.

Also my wife and I were able to go to Oz last year and spent 10 days in your neck of the woods. Well port douglas anyway. Took a trip up to capetown one day. The ferry at Daintree and that whole area was nice. Got lucky and saw a casslewary with 2 chicks. We are definetly coming back down. My wife actually wants to go for a few months and ship the truck. We are talking about it and trying to map out a plan. maybe in 5 years. Big $ for that trip. Have you taken the trip to the top on the Creb track?

My friend Beo, you are absolutely right. I get to work every morning and spend all day staring at MUD, anxious to pounce on my next unsuspecting victim. Funny how the person to whom my comment was directed received said comment in the spirit in which it was intended. Silly person; you get your nose bent out of shape at the most innocuous of comments. Go away.....you're like a bad case of the clap.

At least we agree on this point. Now take the hype of your vaporware over to the vendor forum and leave your snide comments over in Chat.

Thanks for the link. Blue Sea make some quality stuff.

FNQ is my favourite part of the world. Spent three weeks up there last new years. Port Douglas for new years eve goes off. The CREB track is an awesome track that goes through some of the prettiest rainforest in the world. The CREB track heads north from Daintree for about 5 or 6 hrs (in the dry, weeks if it rains) to Wujal Wujal. The good track to the tip of Cape York is called the Telegraph Track. I haven't been all the way to the tip yet as it was the wet season when I was there and we didn't want to get stranded. As it was it didn't rain the whole time we were up there and we could have gone to the tip but we weren't to know. Maybe next time.

Pics from the trip.

I agree that there is better isolators available then diode isolators. Just my 2c. I wouldn't have a clue what mobiarc sells so can't comment on his products. There are lots of isolators available out there each with their good and bad points. You just need to find one that suits your needs.
