Ever since I tried to jump my cruiser (and maybe before?) from a 'modern' car with their bulloney jump points and ended up connecting the jumper cables to two positive points, I have had the following symptoms:

The lights are a little dim at idle, get brighter with higher rpms.
The radio will turn off when I hit the turn signal, windshield wiper, or put the truck in reverse (reverse light comes on).

Voltage regulator??? Alternator? It has a new battery. All other electrical devices are fine--starts right up etc.

Tnx,
B

Thats funny my cruiser was just doing the exact same thing after my battery died. When I would turn on my headlights my radio would shut off. Also my lights where real dim. But in my case my alt. was not charging my battery. Turned out to be a disconected wire at the altenator. Probably not your case. Is you battery getting charged? I would go to the alternator and check voltages with the motor running. Check all your fuses and any resistors or fuses linked up to your alternator. Also inspect the wires for signs of frying. You might have toasted something like your regulator? Wish I could help more.

I'd say you blew out one of the diodes in your alt. There are three of them in there, and a shock to the system will blow them out. I'd pull it and have it tested, but plan on getting a new one. When you start looking for a replacement, make sure the voltage regulator is mounted away from the engine - it comes in about 20 diff configurations, so be sure to check.

I have had similar problems ever since I got a new alt. My lights are dimmer and my voltage drops at low RPMs. Plus the seat belt warning light is always sort of on.

check fusible links, they might be partialy bad. If not that its prolly the alt
