Hi all,

Had a little excitement this weekend while on the way to get the oil changed.

Was driving about 30-40 mph, power completely cut to the motor, no signs of over heating, plenty of oil in the engine, just completely cut out without any warning.

Check engine light popped on and low engine oil pressure light turned on.

After checking if there was oil in it I tried to restart, the starter would click, and it sounded like it was going to ignite for a moment then nothing.

Sitting at the shop right now till I can get it towed to Lexus tomorrow morning.

Any ideas how much this will hurt my checkbook? Thanks in advance!

I agree with jiggletits. If you were not getting a strong ignition turnover when trying to start your rig, then:
  1. Your battery is about done.
  2. You have a loose connection.
  3. Your alternator is about done.
Check your interior lights and see if they come on, another indication of how the battery is.

Praying for a simple and affordable solution for you! (e.g. replace battery) I hate electrical problems.

Terminals are secure, interior lights are bright. Battery is just over a year old maybe a little more.

Off to the dealership tomorrow...to be continued

Wife had same issue today, cut out while driving. New battery yesterday, as old read 0 V. New battery only at 20% after a short drive, and my new fangled charger/tester says bad alternator. Anyone ever replaced it on this engine? Not much in search. While idling, battery only reading 11.5V, so thinking it's an alternator issue. Has codes P1604, P1604, and P1605, all which are rough start/idle codes that don't trip the CEL:. Thoughts before I plunk down a grand on alternator and labor?

I put this in mine: 2013 Lexus GX460 4.6L V8 Alternator | Tucson Alternator - https://www.tucsonalternator.com/product/1013106/2013-Lexus-GX460-4.6L-V8-Alternator/1-/
There's also a jumper that goes in the fuse box that'll increase alternator voltage to 14+ VDC. Can't remember it off hand nor can I find it, but I believe Acrad will remember.
