Step one in my quest to setup my new garage for a real workshop is to improve the electric capabilities. The entire garage (26' x 30') is now fed from one single 15A breaker, this isn't gonna do it. Rather than run a bunch of feeds from the 200A main panel, I am adding a 100A sub-panel with circuits for receptacles, lights, air compressor, welder, and maybe even a lift eventually.

So, my questions is... if I do all this work myself, do I need to have it inspected? I am confident that I won't screw it up, but I am mostly concerned about maintaining my homeowner's insurance. A co-worker that is coaching me teaches an electrical class so he is very familiar with the latest codes, so I'm pretty sure I'm OK there too.

Did you have to get a permit for everything else?
What they don't know------------!

Honestly, I didn't think I needed to get a permit, otherwise I would have. The panel is installed, and I just finished connecting the main feeder to it this afternoon. Now to run all the branches.
