I am in the last stages of my fj45lv build and can't seem to find help finishing up the elctrics, as Ken Said you mind as well ask someone to come help clean out your septic tank, thats how much fun it is.
so what I have is a EZ wiring harness that I am trying to mate to OEM 78 switchs plugs and column. I have the cruiser completely wired now , except for some of the dash and switches. I have gotten the ignition wired corectly so it turns over and runs and while the head light switch works and the turn signal/hi beam switch works to switch the lights from hi to low... thats pretty much all I have working. the turn signal Hazard and parking lights are escaping me. i keep working at it but would really like so get someone who is electrically touched to have a look at what I have done. an hour or two of time is all I need I am availible Saturday or sunday afternoon but need to know sooner than later in that my wife is out of town this week end and I would need to line up a baby sitter.
anyway this might be too crazy of a request but I think I have just about reached my breaking point and need to get this thing done.
thanks Jason

The japenese lost the war and are punishing us with land cruiser electrical systems. They do some pretty weird stuff. I just spent 5 hours getting rid of my toyota wiper switch in favor of a toggle. It stumped me and a freind helped me by taking the motor apart and seeing how it ran. They run the speeds by grounding rather than supplying power to the individual coils. Same confusing mess with the taillights. I would help if I was closer. You can call and I'll try

If I thought for a second that I could offer any actual help or insight I would happily make the drive, but 4 hours each way is a long drive to stand around and heckle.

:)

I know gusy I am pretty far away from most on my little rock of an island. I wish you lived closer too Gary , I think you are the only one who has installed one of these harnesses sucsessfully :) I'll keep workin at it there is only a million combinations of wires it could be. right???!!!
Dave you can come Heckle anytime

I am going to copy your first post and re-post it in a month as my own.

Jason, is this so you can bring the LV to the FG? If so, I can help you out either day, but I'd rather get on it early (since an hour usually runs into all day). If it's not for FG, I can do it any time after (got a pretty big punch list myself).

Do you have a '78 and '67 wiring diagram, all the terminations you want to use, and lots of electircal tape? :hillbilly:

(DISCLAIMER: I am not an electrician, and the only automotive electrical fire that was my fault didn't result in a total loss.)

flipper I highly recommend patching what you have :)

Jim Yes Yes it is my intention to drive the lv to FG....well that was my intetion but realistically I don't know. if I get the electrics sorted out then it can hit the road for raod testingbut the only real issue I see there is the cooling system keeping it cool.
I am registering it on Monday the 22nd then it will be legal on the road. my need to finish it is more goal oriented in selling my fj62 to pay the bills on the lv :) I don't mind taking the fj62 to FG for a last ride though, I'm ok with that... anyway to answer your question. I would really like to make some progress with the wiring. but would not feel justified in saying its in order to be done for FG.
i am using Anchor connectors that I get at west marine. they are marine quality and I use there heat shrink as well. nice stuff. I bought one of threcrimpers that you change the tip and it will do all sorts of crimps. I was hoping the the wiring would be worry free once complete.....
so if you can spare time away from your preperations Sunday morning (girls have soccer Sat morning) then I am all for it, but if its going cut to much into your FG preperations then maybe after FG..
Jason not a straigh answer but an answer

:D
Let's say Sunday morning then, just be prepared for the better part of a day though. I can poke along with it if you need to do something with the girls. ;) PM me your address and # again, and have a fire extinguisher handy.

Toyota did some weird stuff with their wiring, for sure, but NOTHING is as bad as a Lucas system in a British car. I'm not afraid of any automotive wiring, but those things are torture.

Wish I had time to come give you a hand...

thats ok Ken I got plans for your garage :)

Do you need help with setting the Painless wires to their correct connector from a factory harness or will you be wiring everything up, as in new flashers and relays?

I can do phone support if you'd like. I have been struggling with my own wiring harness and have finally figured out ~95% of both the 72 and 78 harnesses.
