I bought a 1999 100 a year ago for my cabin. I have driven it a total of 1100 miles in a year.

When I went to start it this year the electric ABS motor on the master cylinder grinds for 20-45 seconds when first started in the morning. the rest of the day its quite and no noise.

When I first start it it sounds like a bad bearing going out. If I tap the brake it stops for 2-3 seconds and grinds until the 45 seconds are up.

Could this be air in the pump or is it time to replace it? Are they rebuild-able?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hard to say anything definite, but the pump isn't really made to be rebuilt.

My experience:
My 2004, which I've had for three years, has always had a grinding noise, and always grinds away for some time when started in the morning. If I just let it sit there with ignition on, the pump runs for a few secs every 8-10 mins. After sitting still for a few hours, the pressure is all gone and the pump has to work for quite some time. Anyhow, it always keeps the pressure up, and has worked like this for three years without any change.

My 2000 kept the pressure much better, and the pump worked only a few seconds every morning. It was also much quieter, hardly audible.

Thanks for the info and reply.

I was hoping that someone had a easy fix like bleeding the system out. The dealership wants about $200 just to bleed the system with a flush.

So I went to the Stealership and had them look at the brakes.

They wanted me to replace the MC/ABS Electric Pump for $1900.00. Oh it will take a week to get the part and have it back.

I told them to just flush the old fluid out and replace with new. $130.00.

No more grinding bearing noise at all and the brakes seem more responsive.

500+ miles no problems. Hope this helps someone else out.
