electical issues.

2000 land cruiser. 203K miles

up till today I have not had any electrical issues.

I flicked the flash to pass high beam and all the lights on the dash lit up and when I let go they all went off. I noticed when I hit the brakes the headlights would flicker. I got home shut it down and went back out to see if I could find something.

I could see the flashing red key on the dash. The open door light was very dim light. As soon as the key touched the ignition the door light went dark and turning the key did nothing. I also noticed the steering wheel lock is not engaged. The key is out and I can turn the wheel.


I seemed to recall a similar problem being talked about a few months ago involving tampering with one of the relays or fuses but I cant seem to find it now.

Any ideas ?

ok I can get all the lights and radio to come on now but when the key is turned from acc to on everything shuts down and I can hear a bizz from the relays sounds like one of the large ones just behind the battery ?

Does that sound like the starter relay is bad ?

battery is 3-4 months old and good.

after banging on the starter relay it fired right up

So do I just need to replace the relay or should I order a starer too

wow a 50 relay nice and of coarse not in stock anywhere local
