After our snow run and 2-3 trips to the desert in a row, we are ready to relax on the beach.

Not offroading by any means, but more of a get out of town and relax trip. We are heading up Thursday (leaving work around noon) and will stake out camp site 85 (already reserved). Make base camp and then proceed to relax on the beach, lounge and basically do nothing all weekend Enjoy good food and drink.

There won't be any wheeling to speak of or any 100 mile dirt roads.., it won't be primitive or descelet.. but it will be a general nice peaceful relaxing time. We may go into town and if the other half wants to enjoy some shopping, stop off for a burger , this and that.. but the majority of the time will be at the campground/beach.

Anyone that wants to join us, feel free. Everyone is more than welcome and i think the campsites are readily available..

Oh yeah for those that don't know.. El Cap is just north of Santa Barbara.

El Cap

Great campsite, beach and awesome surf spot when it's on.:)

We might come visit you for the day if there is some swell. I don't know if you surf but if we show up do you want us to bring an extra board/wetsuit?

Thanks for the post.

Scott

Scott, we'd love to have you if you have free time to come on up. Shoot i've never surfed dude. Living in SoCal my whole life, more of a desert rat than anything. Last time i was up at Gaviota i boogie boarded a little that was about it. I'll probably just hang tight and watch you guys.

I could come and visit if that's OK.
I can show you how to get to the top of the coastal mountains for the views. Easy trail and spectacular view of the islands! Perfect at sunset. Bring a picnic.

Eric that would be cool. What day would you plan on coming by?

no idea. That's too far in the future for me. Plus only if it's good for you.
I'll PM with my number.

I think I pimped this place to you before.
Since yer gunna be so close, you gotta run up there and grab a fat burger from the store/grill and resupply the cooler anyway.

and it's another sick surf break when it's crackin barrels.

This sounds like a fun trip.

Yep, Jalama is a very, very good beach break when the sand bars, wind and swells come together. Sick barrels....have surfed it a couple of times..don't get me started on Central Coast surf spots...

Jeff, never too late to learn to surf, add a long board to your mods, plus a wetsuit of course, and you are set...

Wus! :flipoff2:

Seriously, camping in the rain isn't any fun!

I'm going to be in Joshua Tree if it doesnt rain out there. NWS says cloudy thru the weekend right now, but I'll see what it says on Thur/Friday...

Weather this morning said scattered showers today thru Thursday and rain Friday and Saturday. Anyone want to take my place on a scout trip with 32 boys and nothing to do indoors?

Dave, with all that gear you have attached to the rig, I'd think you'd love the challenge.

Besides, winter is over. It already rained this month once.

I dont mind it raining for part of the time, but im not driving up there to spend the whole entire weekend in the rain... thats just dumb. Especially since i can drive a different direction and have a nice sunny time :)

I think you should go.

Sure, you might not get that warm, sunny beach weekend that you were hoping for, but sometimes, sitting in the tent, opening the flaps, brewing up some tea, and watching DVDs under the awning while the rain comes down is fun.

Plus...you never know what the weather will turn into in Santa Barbara County.

I took the wife and 2 yr. old camping in Carpinteria a couple of weeks ago. Rained all night Saturday, then turned full-blown amazing by mid-morning Sunday. We did Refugio Rd., El Camino Cielo, and Broadcast Mountain Road. The rains kicked up all the streams, creeks overtook the roads and the waterfalls were all raging. We drove up to the ridge of Broadcast, and visibility went down to a few feet, with howling winds, slushy rain, and spooky darkness. Then, the clouds split, with sunshine and rainbows everywhere. The lush, green cliffs of Refugio Canyon looked like Hawaii. It was awesome!
