I have an Autometer EGT gauge setup. In the past few months, I noticed that the needle would suddenly drop to zilch, then later come back to life and behave itself for a while. I can see no problems with the wiring and tapping on the meter makes no difference when it goes whacky.

When it decides to act flakey, the temp on the gauge starts to head down, then it gets jittery and can bounce around for a bit before just dying (i.e., needle at dead bottom--not just zero, but needle at six-o'clock).

Anyone know if this is a symptom of the probe? or the meter? It's only about 2-3 years old and it would really bite one to have gone bad so soon.
