Well, after staring at the CEL for 8 months (and knowing what it was) I took the truck in to have the EGR looked at. A good friend and Toyota master tech told me it was likely the EGR VSV and advised me that I would be better off having the dealership do the work due to the location of the valve (under the intake).

So, $250 later, no more CEL. Now if I could just get the damn seat belt light to turn off. :D

Good to hear ... that was what was wrong with my repeating 401. Honestly, I did not think that getting the thing off and on was so tough; I did it all from the floor with two or three extensions and two or three swivels. Anyways, enjoy your 401-free driving!!! Ohh, if you have not already replaced your modulator, I would recommend calling up Dan for the newer model modulator.

I second the modulator, if your VSV failed do to carbon in the vacuum system (like many of us) then you modulator is letting carbon in the vacuum system and your VSV will fail again.

ditto on the modulator as well as cleaning the throttle body ports and vacuum lines.

there are instructions on how to do this in the faq if anyone is diy inclined. plan on an hour and a half if you have small arms or 2 and a half if big.

Ditto that.

To bad you couldn't do this yourself. The VSV is about a $70 part from C-dan, and as mentioned, about an 1 1/2 job for a first timer.

But look at the bright side... no annoying CEL!

Yep, I just replaced my VSV. When I took it apart I found it had rusted solid. It would be nice if they could have made this out of something that could resist oxidation.
