Hi all,
I have an early LC100. A 1998 UZJ100 with the A442F transmission.

I have been having a transmission problem for many years now.
The transmission has a violent THUD when shifting some times. Mostly from 2nd to 3rd but even other gear changes are not smooth. They are jerky.

I have had the transmission completely overhauled by a specialist at great cost.
I have fitted a new rear diff and new throttle body.

Now I have been told that the ECU which also controls the transmission, may be to blame.

If I buy a replacement, used ECU and replace my ECU with it, is it just a case of plug and play or do I need to change anything else like the key ? My vehicle does not have a transponder key.
Just has remote central locking.

Drop vehicle off at Toyota, tell em you lost your keys. Toyota will get you a new ecu if you pay for the new keys and the labor associated.

Thanks but this will not work out.
If I were to tell my local toyota dealer that I lost the keys, I will have to send the vehicle to them on a truck.
When I bought the vehicle I only got 1 key. This was the duplicate. It did not have the door lock/unlock button on the key.
When I ordered the correct master key, the dealer charged me for just the key and supplied just a new key blank and they programmed the remote on the key to synk with the central locking transponder on the vehicle. They did not replace the ECU. Nor did they even cut the key. I had to get it cut elsewhere.
So telling them that I lost the keys will not make them replace the ECU. They will simply repeat what they did last time. Supply a new key.

Hit up car-part.com for a used transmission and just swap them out. Some last 400,00+ miles fine. Also a great resource for pretty much any other used parts you need...
