You don't need to take the dash apart. Had my original one out to repair, I just had to get my head and hands under the dash so I could work on it.

you must have a small head ...;)

thinking about it, hope this will work.....

-undo cable at carb
-feed some cable and housing through firewall
-take out knob from under dash and down by pedals
-attach the end to knob (not sure how it attaches to the knob behind the dash anyone ?)
-put back into dash
-reatach to carb

good to go...

Will this work...?

I replaced mine.Think mine was $15 last year from Toyota. There is a nut on outside that hold the assembly to the dash.

Take the knob off and then the nut and it pushes through the dash. Then you can just pull the cable out from behind the dash.

Stick the new cable through hole in dash.. put on nut...screw on knob.. Then route the cable to the carb and reattach it. Make sure when it is all the way in it is not closing the choke any.

I know one trick is to tie a string/cord etc. to the old cable. Pull the old cable through the daush so that you now have the string inside the cab. Tie the new choke cable to it and get someone to pull from the outside while you help it feed through. At least it will aid you in where it should feed through the dash.

This is a quick repair as described above. It took me about 20-30 minutes tops several months back. I bought a used cable off this board for $20. If you can get one OE from Toyota for that price I would be stunned.
