Yeah, I got a kick out of that. I can't remember if you knew that we'd bought one of these honourary Toyotas or not.

I'll take part as soon as the 35" mud tires stop burning from the diesel fueled fire we had. We lit it while trying to burn the paint off the recycled computer parts from the old Styro foam manufacturing company we sold in order to fund my oil field investments. Go GREEN!!

Just for Earth Day, the city of Coquitlam decided to have a tree planting party in the green belt behind my place. ;)

So, they brought in two black smoke puffing, oil leaking backhoes to dig the holes.

You gotta love city council. :flipoff2:

For Earth Day I'll be about 3.0 hrs in the Safari fighting my way to and back from N Van for an hour and a half meeting.

One day we will get with the rest of the world and have a LRT system out to the burbs. But we will have to pay for the Olympics first.

Take transit, you pollution spewing good for nothing......

Nah, enjoy the commute.

Uh, dude, when I'm driving the Cruiser, I just idle along in whatever gear moves me along without using the brakes. Usually, it's first, like on the Mary Hill 'bypass'. This will decrease both frustration and brake wear.

Funny how some routes go one constant speed and others have the
slinky.jpg
effect

The #1 is definitely a slinky. I almost always get going nearly fast enough to try for a shift to 3rd and then the traffic comes to a sudden stop for a few seconds and then begins to speed up again.

If I go in on the 99 its just a constant crawl (often from near Hwy 10) but a damn long way to get to N Van.

Why the hate? The Olympics, and stuff like it, get s*** done. Sure they say the new Squamish highway isn't part of Olympic projects, but would it have happened?
Yes, eventually.
And the LRT is coming out that way, slowly. Everyone wants it, just no one wants to pay for it.

I agree, Jeff!

The skytrain to the airport is good, the sea to sky highway upgrade is good, the multitude of facilities are good for future kids and local/provincial/national sport.

I like it.

Great stuff if you live in the GVRD and frequent Squamish and Black Comb. But it s*** in the rest of the province where primary infrastrucure like highways is left to rot. Take a drive aound the province and you will see that outside of the Vancouver Whistler corridor, there isn't a lot of love for the Olympics. Every sign people see on roads announcing 3.2 M resurfacing (AKA filling pot holes) is just a slap in the face to those whose industry fills the coffers of BC.

BTW, 1 hr 10 min from Abby to N Van. No slinky today just zooom zoom zoom. BTW, who was that in the 74 who passed me on the #1 just before Clearbrook Rd and went to Aldergrove. I figure you were doing 120-125. BTW, you were blowing a bit of blue while climbing up Mnt Leahman.

Well that's why we pay more to live down here, for all that fun stuff. And the last time I took a drive up country, they were building a new road, just can't remember where at the moment, east of Merritt I think it was.

The Olympics were an excuse to fund a bunch of projects that were proposed and needed for the past 10 years. It was the push that made them finally come to be approved and done. Rather idiotic that it wasn't spread over the 10 years prior to it as it would have been more economical that way. None of the politicians wanted to be responsible for starting a project that made sense with only the argument - but it makes sense and we need it - they all waited until they had a good excuse like the Olympics. The funny part is that when the Skytrain was originally proposed most people were against it (and many politicians). Once it was built and functional everyone bitched that it didn't go further. That's because at the time it was only budgeted for a select few locations due to everyone's bitching. The run to the airport was part of the original project but was scrapped since not enough money was dedicated to it.
There are endless examples of this in every project the government does.
As for highway driving, put it in first and set your own speed, keep some distance between you and the guy in front and start the steady speed lane - that's what a lot of truckers do.
