windows are still stiff when cold... but... as compared to the K- fst replacement they do not feel like they would break/crack

the blue i believe was Eu and Jp ... but... if they did have them... why not a white or black even... the od would have been the standard IMO untill the vinyl white
 
Here are the A & B type. I took some measurements off these photos (not saying that they are accurate) and the front bow looks to be shorter on the A-type, about the same on the middle bow for A & B, and the rear bow seems to be shorter and maybe overhanging the rear of the bed a little on the A-type. Again these were crude measurements.

Looking at my FJ25 book the whole soft top doors have a ten digit part number but the replacement door skin only has a BJ25 part number with a * at the end which I guessing by 1963 when the number system changed the door skin were a NLA part. I need to see if I can find a explanation of * but NLA would mean no reason to give a new part number. Looking at the pictures of the two different bow styles it's clear the A style has a shorter B pillar bow. I don't remember if that was address before Mike 25 went to Badger. Probably covered this when he and Jim converted it to the B/C style bow. If not anyone getting a Badger top would have to cut the B pillar bow down for the top to work. I'm still not sure a blue color for police would be listed in any parts book. Would think these would have been a special order not offered to the public. Since they is only one part number for a complete door serious doubt any color option were available for the 25s. Would be curious to see the white doors in person. Wonder if Georg still has them? Are they for sale?

Next time I'm up north I will probably bring the grey bows back and compare them to the red 61 FJ40 bows. I'm going to check the 62 early rear bow part number to the 63 late rear bow number to see if the bows were taller right from the start or changed later. At some all the soft top thread should be linked here and this made into a sticky.

I see while I was typing this Antony posted the pictures that show the difference.
 
I certainly wouldn't be opposed to producing 25 tops. It would have to be in one configuration though. And have to be a group order.

I think the biggest hurdle is getting an original top to make a pattern from so I can get the construction correct.

When camping or hunting if you want to see wildlife you need to get up early. To get the sides down I parked close enough to campfire the sides would soften up enough to zip the sides. If not it gets pretty cold driving around before sunrise with the sides up.

Why not black and white. You do remember this Toyota with limited options? The A style bow were probably a copy of the jeep, same with the rear bench seat. I think when Toyota either designed or copied the jump seats they needed to redesign the bows for the jump seats to work. For a few years Toyota offered both options. By 62 and maybe 61 (don't have a 61 parts book) we only got the one option. Figure by the mid seventies the soft top option was down to a few and gone by 78. Is their any part number for color on later 40s or were they all white?

The biggest hurdle I think the correct tub and bows. Door are another story. I thinking including enough material at a extra cost would be the easiest option.

usa there is no color code... the newer EPC says vinyl thats it

everything else checked says vinyl


The blue it seems is for Gen ... not eu .... and also for Jp

in gen and jp part #rs for 'C' bows

I would use a tub and bow set to get the right measurements. I'm not sure how accrate measurements would be from a 50 year old top that has stretched and deteriorated.

I purchased an OCD FJ25 top post ban and pre Trollhole. No issues at all I love the quality although I am too trusting with these things. That is just me. This is the Ige model in what I would call tan. The back window is a roll up. The only fitment issue we have found is that the sides need to be about 1" longer (front to back). The fabric doesn't quite reach the B pillars. We can ask Ige to post up how it looks installed if there is interest is seeing that.

I believe the roll up windows is the only early tops he made after Jim's (Cruiser_Nerd) top. Probably the reason he was willing to make them. Depending on how long you had this top it might not be that long after he refused to make the early tops he was already paid to make. So was your contact with OCD thru eBay or face book or? Don't check eBay much any more and never on FB. If you don't mind me asking how much was he charging? So do have bows? One last question did you get matching material to skin OEM doors? Pretty sure Sean is like me and only want a original top with the removable sides and back. All ready have a old Kayline top for a FJ25 that you could roll up the side and back. Plus a few Kayline tops to fit the later OEM bows. Again roll up window. Besides being stiff in AZ with all the dust you have to worry about that dust acting like sandpaper with the sides rolled up. I usually try and roll the sides up with a towel to protect the vinyl. Plus the cloth straps will scratch the windows. Would be easier to remove the sides and leave them behind at camp.

I emailed him and sent him the money. $700 I believe and he sent enough extra fabric to recover four doors. Ige's doors and mine.

I need bows for both of my 25s :(
One is an A and the other a B type.

Pretty straightforward, and in retrospect, fun to skin your own doors. :)

Regarding the B pillar bow height: yes they are shorter on the A-type. Mike made bows based on the two sets we had on hand and the dimensions gathered from others in the thread. We did that to be sure a patterned top would fit other trucks. The bows and truck that Badger patterned off was spot on, however I have not been able to steal Mike's top to try on mine, but I am pretty confident they would interchange. ;)

When Jim did my top he was reluctant to do another in the exact same pattern because of the amount of work required (he could do 40 tops in much less time). I do see that he simplified things on the treeroot/Ige top. Comments heard from Jim and Badger make me think it would be foolish to attempt to pattern the top without a vehicle to test fit it on.
 
One other note for the doors. New plexiglass in the same thickness as the old will bow out from the wind load, so if you put the glass down while driving it stays down until you slow down and can slip it back up into the top channel again. I imagine as the plexi ages another twenty years it'll get stiffer. ;)

As I remember the plexiglass was thinner that the channel and it had plastic C channel to fill in the space. The set of doors on #16 has replacement piece on one of the doors that fills the whole gap. The later soft top door the plexiglass is somewhere in between I believe.

for sure. i don't see much use in going through the restoration I have in mind for my 25 only to skimp on the top. I have gathered every part to bring my '59 back to it's original status, within the last 5 years. I am willing to wait within reason to have a "correct" top made.

This is what I had suspected ALL along when Jim was in the midst of my order. I spoke with him on numerous accounts regarding paying him as much as twice the amount the original asking price. Unfortunately Jim had made his mind up that it was not to be and I was offered 2 later style tops. They were not what I wanted, but I had paid in advance and did not see ANY chance what's so ever in receiving a refund.

this is not an avenue I wish to proceed down again. I am more than willing to pay a fair share for said merchandise, but I don't see any reason to place any short-cuts within the production of a finished top. lets do it "right"!
 
And a few detail shots of OCD Jim's top, not sure I ever posted them. But all the multilayer flappage made it pretty labor intensive.

Do we have any more information on the ambulance doors in the last picture. Does not look like a standard FJ25 tub, FJ28? They also look to be a single piece not a two piece style.

I never noticed the mirror. :D There are a bunch of odd things in those two rear shots. Note the tire carrier, arm supports for the seats to the floor in one, and the cargo bars behind the seats. :hhmm: The only thing I can read on the page is FJ21 and FJ28, and it's not a 28. If someone's willing to translate I'll send it to them.
