I'm thinking of going out with the Roverlanders that day, they are old like me and get up later. I hope the access road isn't as much of an ice arena as last time for you guys...

Hey guys, I picked up a key from the city on Thursday, it's 50 dollars, and they write all your information out and assign you a key. As soon as I got the key, I went up to the gate to check it out, I was quite disappointed when I got there because the gate was wide open, and nobody was around. The new lock is chained to the gate which solves one of the issues of the locks being taken, but this new lock has been in place for not even a month, and people are still just as careless.

If anyone is interested in a key, bring your insurance papers to the animal shelter/bylaw office in the city maintainance yard. They will take your money, fill a sheet out and then redirect you to the reception office, which is also in the maintainance yard, there you will receive your key.
 
We need to carry some cardboard and jiffy markers, then tape it to the backside of the gate with the words "Close the gate dumbass!"

the get is being left open quite often but just keep closing and locking it when you see it open.

Thanks for helping me get out, I'm glad you got your stuff for your baby and we got off the hill before it got dark. And also thanks to Chris and Jason too, i think we are all feeling sore right now. Not fun shoveling hard packed snow. Don't want to do that anytime soon. Also, not fun is having no communication with anyone and being in the front. Wasn't sure wether to stay close, so I didn't get too far ahead of Brent just in case he needed a tow, but then if I slowed down to stay in view, he was on my ass making his banzai run up the hill, so I had to step on it. If I could see him, it was too late, he was right there like a ninja. When I stopped the next time, if I could hear him, then I would booted it up the hill, then I ended up getting too far ahead and got into an area, with off camber sections that wants to slide you into the trees. I got out of one situation, but came out with a big dent on my rear quarter. Then I got stuck when I hit a soft patch near a tree when I was staying close to the high side of the trail. I finally got to try out my winch, set it up to to pull the front of the truck in line with the path, it was working, and then the winch seemed to pack it in. Oh F! Me! I could hear the solenoids clicking and motor trying to run. Oh great, now I have tension on the line, and winch wont spool out, and the clutch wont release under tension. So, Jason and I ended up walking down the trail for some help. We caught up to where Brent blew his tire off his bead, and headed back with Steve's aluminum snow shovels and tried to dig the front end out. I finally got some reception on my phone and a message from Brent to give him a pull, LOL. They were good on the soft stuff, but useless on the hardpacked with the flat edge. I almost forgot I brought some traction plates with me, and they helped move the truck forward enough to take the tension off, so we could remove the pin from the shackle and not have it whip back. As soon as the tension was off the winch it started working again? That's when Chris and Frank showed up, so we tried it again with less of an angle, but as soon as it got enough tension back on it, it would stop working again. Chris ended up winching me out from behind, and now the plan was to back out and get to the turn around area. I was still in the area where the truck would want to slip back into the trees, so we had to use a pulley block and attached the line to the side for support. We were able to get my truck out of that one spot, but Chris had to get into the area too to help me out, and got put in a a similar position sliding towards the trees. We had to dig trenches to guide the wheels out, and stop the trucks from going back into the trees. George showed up too to help, but had to go and help Brad get unstuck further back down the trail. When we finally got out of that one situation and started backing up back to the turn around, we encountered George with 2 wheels off the trail, good thing he has a front and rear winch, and pulleys to pull him sideways. I ended up finding another soft patch and got hung up bit again, but we were able to dig it out (spade shovel good). Goerge got high centered, when he backed into the turn around and found the deep stuff, so a bit more digging and whinching, so we didn't take any chances when I got to the turn around, just in case the 80s weight might sink it into the snow. Once we all got turned around, it was a relief to start heading back down. It was a good day for carnage.

Since I live so close, I'm going to drive by on a regular basis to ensure the gate is CLOSED AND LOCKED.

It may be useful to put a warning sign on the lock side post (because you can see it even when the gate is open) saying something to the effect of: This gate should be locked at all times. If you enter this gate without having a key you risk being locked inside.

Brent- if you see the gate open, why don't you lock it? Let the trapped morons call the RCMP on themselves.

Lance- That was quite the epistle. You could have saved us a lot of time had you distilled your rambling down to the following synopsis- "I drive like a douche".

That is all.
