Anyone here bedlined their entire cruiser. I've read all the threads from the 40 section, but would like to see the results in person. Durabak will have the color avail in 5 weeks or so they tell me, so ill take on this project around then.

Yea. Still on the fence about the outside with the rough. My uncle did a couple of his 40s in durabak about 6 years ago, but they're in Washington state and I didn't look closely last time I was out there. I remember that it didn't look bad.
After talking with my Dad, the PO, I know that there is a LOT of bondo on my cruiser.
I need to repaint it this season and don't want to have bondo all over my truck andcant afford bodywork.
I'm keeping this cruiser forever and will likely go through a few paintjobs. The durabak is one third the price of a decent paintjob. I have an extra Hood now, so ill figure out if I like the rough or paint. Ill probably have rough on the lower inside and lower outside. Hard top will be smooth and uncertain on front fenders.
The engine compartment and axles will be super bright green like my air cleaner and bezel.

I agree with john on this one. It looks ok on a 60 or an 80 because the body lines alow for it to almost blend in but a 40 I think no way will it look good.

Just my two pennies

I suppose i'll figure out what i'll do once i see how bad the body really is. Once upon a time ago my cruiser was rolled three times and i'm curious to see how Dad 'fixed' everything. I'm told that there is a lot covered up, a magnet confirms this. When it warms up a bit more i'll grind it all off and do a proper inspection.

yea, ok. Scrapped that idea of bedliner on the outside. too much to go wrong and it'll never be pretty.
Still gonna use some smooth durabak od green on extra hood to see how it turns out.

If you're planning on keeping it forever, new steel or alum body panels might be cheaper by the time you get to the 2nd or 3rd paint job.

Although that might not be an option if it's your daily driver.

Durabak is Herculiner that is available in more colors FYI. It works OK if you prep well but my experience with it wasn't very good. I am 100% positive Durabak and Herculiner are the same thing unless they changed the formulation/supplier in the last couple years...

There was an FJ Cruiser done top to bottom in Durabak at the Rockvember event...it looked like a grey/black turd. Also, Durabak still pinstripes from driving through the woods. That was the reason he did it in the first place, to cover Ma Natures pin striping...ended up with them anyway and an ugly truck to boot.

Yea, I know. I DD it whenever possible and lack the up front funds to do the job 'correctly.' I grew up with this cruiser and am hesitant to replace any part- sentimental value i suppose. Someday i'll restore it to the original freeborn red, but that time isn't now.

I need something rough, tough, and cheap for the time being. If not plastic wrapping it in Durabak, i'll just move towards a military od green paint. Anyone here a military quartermaster that has expired paint bound for the dumpster?

Balls about the FJC-Turd. So the durabak on outside is out methinks.

Time to research metallic body fillers. maybe go real oldschool and use lead.
'Hell No, No Bondo!'

Yup, that is my understanding about the OEM. People's experiences with the product seem to vary greatly, so i dunno. Think i'm gonna try it on the inside tub and maybe get lucky w/ super duper prep. If it fails, then i'll just scratch it up and linex it instead.

Krylon has an entire line of flat camo colors specifically for camo paint jobs. Get some random leaves and twigs you like and create a custom job. Or you could make some skull stencils or any other symbol and do something really different in camo. Or a traditional like below.

Ha, I've got the of green flat on my front temporarily since last fall.
Was thinking about doing an army acu digital paint scheme, but that is a lot of 1/4 inch masking tape.

For the work this guy had to do I am not so sure the effort is worth it. That could also be car wrap.

You can by the Camo Clad stuff from Cabelas in various camo patterns. I'd worry about moisture collecting underneath though.
