Duh, Is the valve cover Aluminum?

I want to clean up and paint the valve cover. Is the valvie cover aluminum? Do I need a special Aluminum paint or a special primer for aluminum? Or can I just paint it with Hammerite?

What about the thermostat housing? Is this aluminum?

I did do a search but could not find any threads that addressed this question. Thanks,

Valve cover is alluminum. Thermostat housing is not. Aluminum needs to be poweder coated or the paint will eventually crack. I am not aware of any primer that is specifically made for aluminum.

The thermo housing on my 62 is Al.

And why would paint eventually crack on AL, this is the first time I have ever heard that statement.
