Just replaced my central air and heating unit of 27 years.
The contractor suggested to clean the ducts which he does not do.
Is this something I can do myself or hire someone?

Shopvac and a long brush?

The house is a two story, compressor is outside, heater is in the garage.

Thanks

Typically something that you hire out for. They come with a truck mounted vacuum system that they hook up at the furnace end and then block off all the vents and use a variety of brushes, air spray, and such to go from each vent to clean things out. I don't see how you are going to get to everything on your own.

Thanks for the reply:
I figured that, but I've read there are so many scams too.
Have you had it done?
I see your in Pennsylvania but I'm in Southern California.
Wondering what the cost would be? 2 story, 1975 sq ft.
There are adds starting at $69.00 (scam?) to $1000.00 (scam?)-big difference in pricing.

I had mine done just after I moved into the house - about twenty years ago. So I doubt my pricing would be at all applicable.

I cannot imagine how you could do a house for $69. I had two guys here for two or three hours for a similar sized house to yours.

I'd start with a reputable HVAC company - whoever does your furnace and A/C maintenance. If they don't do it, they probably can recommend someone.
