Ive searched the forum and havent been able to find anything related to dual mass flywheels. Mine has packed up and replacement dual mass flywheels cost a fortune.
The springs in the flywheel are shot, as is the pressure plate and clutch plate. (which arent that costly to replace) All that appears to be faulty is that the springs are all shot. Unfortunatelyt you cant just buy a new spring kit.
Is there any way you can utilise the existing unit but set it up so it acts like a solid unit or which solid unit might work in this model.
1990 PZ1 3.5 ltr 5 cyl diesel

Cheers

If you check with Toyota NZ, the duel mass & the solid flywheel are about the same cost
When at idle the duel mass setup is very quite, whereas the solid flywheel type can be a little bit knocky, but only at idle

I've checked with them and Toyota NZ want $850 plus GST just for a solid flywheel replacement. Clutch pressure plate, clutch plate and release bearing are another $750 plus GST just because I cant replace the springs. That from them as well is a special deal as normally the replacement kit is well over $2000.

Had the same problem in my PZJ70! The mechanic in my local garage welded the 2 pieces of the flywheel together and had it balanced. I've run more than 10,000 Kms since then with no problems.

Thanks. I'll look into that one - seems simple enough. Have you noticed any difference in clutch action since you had it welded?

Got a new flywheel installed. After asking around for near a week I got onto a local engineer who makes them using the ring gear of your existing one. The new flywheel is a solid unit about three times the weight but with a new pressure plate and std type clutch plate runs really smooth and all at half the quoted price from the Toyota dealer.

Really happy with the result.
