Hi All,

I had the management light illuminated on my dash for a while and used the magic paper clip method to determine that the problem was a code 33 = Air intake shutter.

Mr T wanted a few hundred yoyo's for a replacement.

Turns out there's a TSB for this which I learned while at Julian's place in England. Julain had alreay cleaned out the intake manifold as standard (very thorough) and tested the shutter action with a vacuum. He found it to be closing only partially.

However, the combination of the sludge in the manifold and the problem with the membrane was throwing the error. It hasn't come up since. Although I'm aware that the membrane i son its way out also.

So, if you're getting a 33 then clean out your intake manifold for a start.

I think most of us are calling the "Air intake shutter" the "Throttle body flap".

What is the "membrane"? The gasket between the Throttle body and the intake manifold?

Unfortunately Toyota used two sets of codes for the ECU. One OBD2 countries and another for those with no OBD2. If someone developed a code equivalency chart between the two it would be awesome for the board.
