For all who have done this. I am thinking of dropping my pan to check the screen and magnets. I read a lot of mixed opinions on this here. For those of you who have done this what did you find? Some say just draining back flushes the screen. If you did this what did you find? Was the screen dirty? I would love to see pictures of both normally operating tranny's and those who were having problems. I myself don't have any issues but I usually do this on all my vehicles.

I didn;t do it on advice of the flush place I used. The guy was specialised in Volvo's, and they use Aisin trans just like our 100's.

His opinion, the screen is nothing more than a system to prevent even more damage to other parts (he was specific, I can't remember though). Should the actual gears start throwing large metal fragments, the screen prevents them from flying through the system.

The screen is not fine meshed at all.

YYMV. FWIW, mine is a 2005 with 255K kilometers, and had likely never been changed or flushed. The ATF was pretty nasty looking for sure.

If you search for "flush" and the likes, you'll see quite a few threads on the subject, actually. I think most people are against flushing and for dropping the pan and cheking screen and magnets. I went against that advice.

I have searched. I am asking for folks that have actually dropped the pan and looked at the screen if it was actually dirty. So far nobody that has actually done this have replied.

I dropped mine to install a shift kit around 205k. Looks really clean. The screen is not really a filter since its not a fine mesh. Its just there incase theres chunks swimming around. The magnets had really fine powder like substance prob from the plates/clutch.

That said, I would not waste time to drop it to clean the "filter".

This is the kind of feedback I was looking for. Hopefully more will chime in with their findings.

As others have said the screen doesn't really et dirty because it isn't fine enough to collect debris, just block the big chunks from spreading. I dropped my pan at 116k and only had a small amount of shavings on my magnets. Looking back I wish I hadn't dropped it. Wasn't worth the mess and time.
