Looking into camping table options. Do any of you who have a table inside the barn door ever wish it was outside? I wonder about having the hatch open all the time while cooking, food smell in the truck, bugs, etc. I see options to put them on a swing out tire carrier, or even possibly just getting a small camp table to put away from the vehicle. Anyone with experience with some of those different options and what you prefer?

Small folding portable aluminum camping table.
No mounting necessary, you’re not tied to your truck to use it, it can be moved anywhere…
And probably much cheaper.

I was actually thinking it would be a cool idea to make one that "stores" on the inside of the back door and can be removed quickly with door hinge pins or something. You could use it on the back of the door if wanted or used outside the vehicle easily.

I have both and use the outside one a lot more often. I also store my 40qt fridge behind front passenger seat. Remove the rear 40% seat and use the space to store the fridge. It just become a lot more convenient for me.

I made adjustable brackets that mount my stove to my OrangeBoxx table. It has thumbwheels on the bottom to level it out, or remove it completely.
I only like this setup because of the space it saves. The stove is not as nice as my larger Jetboil stove.

I only have an inside door table and use it a lot. The only problem is that it eats a little bit into the cargo space (especially if you have stuff hanging off of it) and if I don't pack the cargo area right it fights the stuff in there. Other than that, I still really like having a table in general - I haven't used it for cooking yet though.

I have a DIY wood inside table, and have cooked lots of stuff on it (including things that take longer to cook like spaghetti, or multiple burgers). If you're cooking something greasy you'll get a bit of grease splatter on the inside of the back door, but it's NBD to wipe it off. I have not gotten any significant food smells inside the GX, most of that seems to simply waft up and away. It protrudes into the cargo area maybe an inch, so no real issues with space loss.

Using the vehicle-mounted table is also way easier than a standalone table IMO. Just open the door and drop the table. It's much more stable and easy to use. Also a great place to put stickers.

I am an advocate for a separate folding table. You can move it wherever, don't have to keep your trunk hatch open, etc.

I carry both. A stand-alone Coleman foldable aluminum table and the drop down barn table from Bison Gear.

The drop down is super convenient when you stop for a quick lunch while on the trail.

I setup both the drop down and the Coleman when camping overnight. I use the Coleman to setup my stove and cook. The drop down is like a prep area

+1 for Bison Gear and a cheap aluminum folding table. Great combo and cheap.

Only drawback is if you have drawers in the back, you can't have the passenger side drawer and the table down at the same time.

Swingout bumpers suck.
