These gas prices are crazy. I have even started driving much more slowly and easily and it is making quite a difference. Basically up about 1 mpg. This involves accelerating MORE slowly and keeping it under 80 mph on the highway.

Drive like a grandpa and save some gas.

I noticed that too, but mainly on my nerves.

I find I'm not as worked up when I'm chillin' at 65 and let other people blow by me.

smooth flat freeway, 8500 lbs of 100 and trailer over at least 50 miles:

- 57mph avg: about 18mpg avg per Nav Sys
- 65 mph: about 16

I played with this while being bored on the freeway.
It was essential to be very very easy on the go pedal to get anything like 18. Had to be very smooth, and avoid all jerkiness. Also tried to coast down rather than brake whenever possible.
Also, a few ups and downs would bring it back into the 17 range very easily as well.
Using the cruise control at 60 or so would limit it to the 16/17 range as well, primarily because it had to power up to go uphills at the set speed.

I filled up today and got 191 miles from 17 gallons in city. Thas equals to around 11.2 mpg. I usually get 15 - 16 mpg on the highway. I also drive slow and accelerate slow.

Yeah -- but how do you get your wife to do that??? I haven't figured that one out yet...

Don't let her drive the 100. She is back in her station wagon for now.

Same here. Weird concept driving slow.

Tell me about it, I sold my Audi S4 to buy my 80. Now that was a jarring transition. I'm much happier with the 100 but it still requires a "different" driving style :)
