How do you avoid this problem? Alcan says that every one of their spring sets must have shackles that are 1.5" over stock length.

By installing shims when you install the springs;) .....I guess.

Learned a few things last night. With vehicle leveled on ground, there is no grease pressure built up in driveshaft when removing zerk. I'll complete Mark's recommended procedure this weekend when I get a chance to remove shaft during droop.

Also learned that my "eyeball" inspection in parking lot created some unneeded stress. While there are some angle issues, measuring with an angle finder told me that my pinion is probably not tipped up enough to destroy pinion bearing. Transfer case output flange measured at emergency brake drum is level. Shaft angles down at 8* pitch where most of the angle is in rear u-joint because rear pinion flange is tipped up about 4*. I'll try to tip that back down to parallel the transfer flange.

What was driving me crazy is that after picking up vehicle after many months away for 2F rebuild, I had a different vibration than before. OME install about five years ago didn't create an aweful vibe. Over time I got a vibe that came when drivetrain was "loaded and unloaded" from coast to acceleration. While in shop, mechanic and I decided on a temporary fix to take up play in pinion nut which ws loose. That eliminated that vibe but now there's a constant groan throughout vehicle. When mechanic descibed my driveshafts as too long and others here stating that OME springs were too short is when I started to pay attention to these issues.

I discovered that skid plate was putting a lot of pressure on exhaust pipe which is routed above it. You can guess what happened to 75% of my vibe after removing skid plate!

So what I'm now left with is a small vibe that was probably there after the OME install. I will follow up with spring length, vertical shackle, driveline too long issues. I'll probably shim diff down and replace/properly reload pinion bearing. I guess it's important to me to learn if I can eliminate all vibes at this height before I consider going any taller with suspension. It appears now that it is possible to get a "quiet" 4" or 5" suspension lift.

It's possible to get a "quiet" 8-10 inches of lift. Probably more... ;)
