looking for ideas on home-built jigs for building driveshafts...anyone have something that works well?

If you cut the tube square, do you need a jig? Source the correct diameter tube, cut to length, put ends from old d-shaft on the new one.

Right?

I cut mine square, and you can still see the wobble in the DS lol...

I read the pirate thread referenced in this thread - https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/247231-schedule-40-driveshaft.html

For some reason pirate says that thread is no longer valid, this is the google cached version, but it does not have any of the pictures. - 2 1/2" Sch. 40 Pipe Drivelines Made Easy - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board

The link (that is no longer working) had some pictures of some nice homemade jigs that were adjustable to length. All you need is a flange on a bearing for one side and either a notch or pair of rollers for the tube side.

I just used a tcase front output cone and a big chunk of rect. tube with a notch in it to rest the tube in. Made the shaft with scrap yard sch. 40.

Several thousand miles later still working great.

Hope this helps,

4rnrick got butt hurt and deleted all of his tech from PBB. You might check the marlincrawler board as he used to double post everything there too.

The jig he made used some left over t-case parts and was very effective. A friend of mine copied the idea and it works pretty well. I made mine on it, and it runs pretty close to true. Just a matter of taking your time and quadruple checking everything before, during, and after welding.

front output is perfect....have a few dozen of those laying around :)

I've used just a piece of angle iron to keep it straight while welding after tacking it. Woody I know you know a guy that works at cummings where they make and repair them locally Fond le sac and green bay. Buck up damn it!
