My '01 LX started an intermittent noise around 3 months ago, sounded as if glass and metal were involved
. So, like a bonehead, I did nothing...until I rolled it down 2 days ago...noticed the glass pop out of it's track on the front end, angle forward, and move outward about 2 inches...
What I learned...
I spent a bunch of time searching here, noticed that issue could be either a loose window clip bolt or a broken clip. So yesterday a.m. I yanked the door panel (MANYj thanks for dnp's step-by-step here... https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/327860-door-panel-removal-process.html .
I lucked-out as it turned out that the front bracket bolt had backed out all the way and ended up on the bottom of the door, the rear bolt was loose by about 1-2/3 turns. Fix was a drop of blue Loctite on both of 'em.
Panel removal looks intimidating but it's a no-brainer. Easier with the window down, took 20 minutes on my first try. I refitted the glass, sprayed the vertical window channels with silicone, and replaced the panel.
Noticed the window would raise up only 2-3" and then go into the auto-down mode. :whoops:
. Removed the door panel (this time <5 minutes) and realized the rear of the window was between the channel and inner door skin. ****.
Removed both bracket bolts, slid window forward then back into the channel, tightened everything up, tested ok. Panel replaced and she's gtg.
