The airbag warning light on my red 2004 Prado is on all of the time. The problem started when the seat was moved by a new driver getting into the car and adjusting the seat position.
Our tests indicate the problem in the driver seat airbag (the airbag inside the seat). Does anyont know a source for replacement airbags? Apart from breakers yards? Toyota want to sell me a new seat at £4,800 sterling about 7,000 dollars. Crazy stuff.
the car has not been in a crash and the airbag has not been discharged. has anyone ever heard of a fault in such an airbag? Someone in parts told me that in 10 years he has never heard of such a fault. But that faults are common in the sensors.
Is there anything else I can do to debug this problem. We have done the following:
This is the test we did to identify the fault
================================
I have a second Prado available and we took the seat from the one with the fault, the red Prado, and put it into a Prado without a fault a black colored Prado. The warning light came on in the black Prado.
then we took the "good seat" from the black Prado and put it into the red prado and the warning light was off in the red prado.
My mechanic says that the cable to the airbag and the airbag are connected so that moving seats is the same as moving the airbag. If you see what he means.
