Driver Door Speaker Help

I have had intermittent sound coming from my 2000 DS for about a year. After reading DNP's Door Panel Removal Thread I thought I would investigate.

I removed the panel to find I have Infinity speakers. Whoever installed them just taped the wires together. I cleaned up the connections and nothing.

Then I removed the passenger side panel so I could swap the speakers. The driver side speaker worked on the passenger side. The passenger speaker didn't work on the driver side.

So then I removed the passenger seat to get to the amp and check the continuity between the amp plug and the wires in the driver door. Everything looked good.

Im kind of stumped on what to check next and how. Amp(factory)? Head(factory)?

Do you have sound from the tweeter up at the mirror? If not, check the wiring from the speaker where it goes through the rubber flex tube into the kick panel. There is a large bundle of wires that run through there and they are known to pinch and break. I found a broken window motor wire, (search for other threads on this) so it could also happen for speakers.

I used an OHM Meter to check the wires from the plug at the amp(under pass seat) to the speaker connectors. I got a good read out. I even opened and closed the door to see if that caused any change. It didn't.

Is there a volt reading I can take from the plug on the amp going to the LH FR speaker?

Im really not much of an audiophile.

So if you have continuity in the wire from the amp to the door and a working speaker (original DS side speaker), you can use it to test the amp. Hook it up back up on the DS with a good connection and see if you get sound. If so, the amp is probably ok, since you got sound out of both sides with known good speaker. If not, it's more likely the amp. Given the awful wire connections (including those going to the crossover?), I'm voting for bad wiring or a bad speaker instead of a bad amp. By the way, you can also check a speaker with the ohm meter. Once the speaker is disconnected, the resistance across the woofer terminals should be close to what's marked on the speaker.
 
I hooked the old speaker up with crimp connections and still nothing.
Since the both speakers worked when hooked them up on the passenger door, I'm guessing their OK.

Is there a way to test the power coming from the amp to the speaker with a multi-meter?

Use a low voltage AC setting.
