Does anyone know if any of the early rear (or later) FJ60-62 drive lines are the same as the 1980's FJ45 rear drive lines?
:smokin:

Length or pattern?

Drive line

Both-looking to directly replace my rear 45 drive line or rebuild it with new tube. Just looking for the opinions.
Thanks

If u have fine spline why not get a new flange?

D/S 45-60

Well my D/S is with a rock dent (or ?) just about in the center of the length of the tube with a ever so slight bend to it. When checked on D/S lathe it shows 1.60mm (0.006 or 1/16) run-out in the center area and Toyota's max is 0.8mm (0.031). So I am right over the max by a hair. When viewed while on the lathe it had some pretty good wobble in that center area ( about 3/16) but the ends are fairly smooth. The wobble is still translating throughout the shaft tube to the ends regardless, so its replace the center tube with new (witch I an considering ) or replace with a FJ60 or 62 D/S if they are compatible. Is hard to find a D/S for a 80s FJ45. I will post my 45s D/S dimensions as this my help. I don't know much about the 60-62 models but I read somewhere that some of the drive parts were interchangeable with the 45 series that's why the question. The yoke is good as is the yoke shaft.
Thanks guys.
:wrench:

Note: I found this while preparing to build a D/S reinforced wire cage to protect it from this kind of damage ( rocks in motion, not boulders we drive on and over) that I have built for two FJ40 in the passed. I will post the cage build later.

The length of my D/S installed from front brake drum to rear pinon flange mount is 74.5"

Re tube

Well without much info on the 60-62 D/S, I pulled the D/S and took it in for a re-tube with .120 The dent was not going anywhere and it would still have a wobble so might as well be done with it. Not bad @ $145.
I will install a partial wire cage in the next few weeks to help avoid any future dents and smacks (Sure).
Thanks guys, stay Muddy

I've never had one re tubed myself but you have to be happy with $145. Thats cheap. :steer:

D/S

SOOT, it actually turned out to be $130 instead. He had a pretty cool D/S lathe that did it all. That baby was dead on for balance and true as it can get. The welds he did by hand as he said the auto welder was okay but it just did not look as good as what he does. Now is the time to check the D/S while all is off.

Added - the tube was 2.75 x .083 as the .120 was not available.

I will be checking mine when the time comes. I've got 2 sets stored away so hopefully they are all good. If not there is always the running hj47 at the in laws farm, the local wrecker or your route to go down.

Now I want to go chuck them in the lathe and check to see what they are like.:hhmm: God damn landcruiser fever.

D/S

I believe in Australia you are going to have more of a chance on finding a good used D/S in a wrecking yard or on line for sale than here in the states. It would be wise to check the D/S while all is apart and if it was damaged bad enough, then you may want to check the differential bearings and the trans output due to long term vibrations if that was the case.
Yes the Land Cruiser virus can overwhelm one to the point that you will dream, plan, and create a beautiful machine. Some have "save the whale", I have "save the Land Cruiser" and "Save the old aircraft", my wife has " one more Land Cruiser and aircraft and your dead", oh well.
