My 2000 L/C tensioner is worn out and making a lot of noise, got 209,000 on it. Anyway, I bought a drive belt tensioner and was going to swap the pulley with bearing from the new one to my existing tensioner. This is the drive belt tensioner I am referring to. Anyway, i unbolted the pully (reverse thread by the way), I took the pulley off the new tensioner but it would not fit on my existing tensioner. The new pulley was smaller in diameter and making contact with a part of the tensioner bracket. I was trying to not have to replace the whole tensioner assembly (just the pulley with bearing) as a lot more disassembly is required to replace the whole tensioner. The bearing in my old tensioner makes a grinding noise when spinning it. Question is has anyone else run into this situation where the pulleys were slightly different enough as to not interchange with the existing tensioner assembly? I guess I will have to replace the whole unit. I was just surprised that the pulleys were slightly different. Let me know your findings if you have them, thanks

Toyota changed the tensioner design slightly after 2000, anyways, the problem isn't so much in the bearing but in the spring inside the tensioner that keeps the serpentine belt tight and quite - you need to replace the tensioner - without question - there is a thread for it, search it, i replaced mine last week 2000 lc with 142,000 and it sounds perfect now

The serp belt tensioner has a scale that is part of the casting. If the tensioner scale sits between A and B with the belt installed the tensioner spring is OK.

The correct pulley for the tensioner is 16603-0W010 Drive Belt Idler (Tensioner) $59.28 [price from sam at Lowe Toyota] This part number is one I used for my '99 LC, and should be the same part for your '00 LX

ok, went ahead and put the whole drive belt tensioner on today. Took a little work to get it on but all is well and silent again. The old pulley bearing was wiped out, it was so bad you could feel the play in the pulley and it sounded like stones being ground up when spinning it. Oh well, thanks for everyone's input, this is the best forum ever.

Did you follow the directions in the FAQ? Any short cuts?

I cheated and gave it to my technician to do. Took him about 1 and 1/2 hours. Pretty much did everything outlined in the steps seen in other postings on this website. I could have done it but in the essence of saving time I had him do it. I am an assitant service manager at a Toyota dealership.

..and I'm giving you part numbers and the best price I've found? Thats funny right there!
Now you have to tell us the location of you dealership. I'm sure there are mudders in your area who could use a friend with a sombrero hat.
