What a mess!!!:p

I found the drain bolt on the right side of the block (I have an early 1998 V6) but no nipple on which to fit a drain tube...

So I said hellwithit and drained the coolant into a plastic wallpaper tub and 3 other catch-pails.

I did see a hole in the block immediately below the drain bolt. The hole points downward but I didn't see any threads in it 'cause I didn't have good enough lighting or eyes.

My question is, is that hole threaded and if so, with what threads, and if not, what size rubber tube could be jammed into the hole for drain purposes???

Why are you taking them out in the first place?

If you are flushing your coolant system all you have to do is undo the top radiator hose and run the garden hose through the system for about 2-3 minutes.

Using your method, wouldn't the cold tap water keep the thermostat (where the lower hose connects to the engine) closed? And if so, where would the tap water come out? And after I'm done flushing, the block would still have tap water in it. That's why I need to drain all the water, both from the block and the radiator (and the heater).

Take the radiator hose off at the thermostat and remove it. Yes it will still have tap water in the block but it will be clean tap water. Just put in a heavier mix of coolant when you refill it. The first time you drive it it will mix. Just test it afterwards to ensure you have a good enough mix.

Knowing Toyota S..... it is probably M 8 or 10 or 12 X 1.25, the only way to know for sure without someone else chiming in is to measure it when it's out or go buy and new drain plug and measure it.

It being metric you will probably have a hard time finding a fitting with a hose barb on it.......unless it happens to be the same size as an axle tube breather.
