Well, started replacement of the steering box. Used a fork to separate the pitman from the drag link and only succeeded in separating the pin from the drag link end. After I remove the box and recover the pin, can I reassemble the drag link end, or does it need to be replaced with new?

You can rebuild them...
Your local napa or auto zone sells rebuild kits for them. They are also adjustable to remove slop. No need to replace unless yours is completely seized up with rust or unrepairable.

Kurt at cruiser outfitters sells the "555" units which are japanese and strong if you do need to replace.

Just got a Steering Tie Rod End Drag Link End connector replacement from www.TLC4x4.com for my 1975 FJ40, but it has a right turn thread and doesn't match my left turn thread.

Could I get feedback if I have the wrong steering rod or did TLC send me the incorrect part?

Glad to be aboard. Have finally taken the leap from a viewer to a user on IH8.

TLC was great about getting me the correct Drag Link connector back, along with providing free shipping of the incorrect part.

Now I have the right drag link connector and am good to go.
