I have a new problem and need some help where to start troubleshooting. My 97LC has stopped unlocking the doors when I push the unlock button on the keyfob. First I replaced the battery, no help. When I get out of the car and push the lock button the lights come on and the doors lock. When I push the unlock button the lights come on again, but no unlock? Also, all interior switches seem to be working fine. If I use the key to unlock the front passenger door - all the other doors unlock at the same time. What do I need to check next? Thanks.

Do any of the 5 doors unlock? Or is it just one that doesn't? I ask b/c my rear ds door sometimes won't unlock from the fob, I believe it to be a dirty switch that just needs cleaned, but if none of them open I wouldn't suggest dirty switches. And yes my rear ds door will unlock with the key in the door but not with the fob, doesn't get as much juice is what I figure.
None of the 5 doors unlock. It used to be that one push of the fob and the lights came on and the drivers door unlocked. A second push and the other 4 unlock. I don't think it is the fob, since the llights still come on at the first push?
The drivers side kick panel? The one I spent an hour in 14 months ago when I bought the truck cause it leaked water like crazy every time it rained or I went through a car wash - where I found the sunroof drain hose crimped off and so fashioned a metal sleeve to protect it? FROM the bazillion wires that Toyota stuffed in there? that kick panel? Yeah, I thought so. Guess I have a new project for Sunday afternoon. First I'll have to purchase a multimeter.......
yeah I think you got the idea, there is a good chance that the 8 pin connector that you are looking for is corroded. I had similar water issues with mine and ended up cutting out a few connectors and wiring them direct.
I believe that harness to be kind of your middle point, to determine which direction to start hunting, then again, if it is corroded it may be the problem.
I haven't figured it out yet, but in consulting the FSM - it's clear as mud. The FSM doesn't even mention the fob? Also, to make things more interesting, I noticed that if I lock the doors with the arm rest lock as I exit, and don't press the fob to lock it - when I then press unlock on the fob, all doors unlock. So there must be more than one relay to the door unlock, or the problem is in the initial relay (inside the truck) where the fob "unlock" signal is processed and sent out. But - it does turn the lights on when pressed, only won't unlock the doors- if they were initially locked using the fob to begin with?!?!?!?

I believe that even if you lock the doors manually before exit, the keyless entry system is not "armed". Pushing the keyfob once will then "arm" the system and re-lock the doors. A second keyfob push will then "disarm" the system and unlock the doors.
I would guess that you should focus on connections between the keyless entry system and the power locks. Unless I read too quickly, it sounded like everything works normally until the keyless entry gets involved. Could be a corroded connection there somewhere where the keyless interfaces with the power lock circuit from the sound of it. I found that Beowulf has a lot of keyless entry info scanned on his website. There are wiring diagrams and trouble shooting guides for the newer RS3000 keyless entry system that you should have on your '97. This stuff may help a lot.
Well - whatever it is , it is a gremlin now. Drove to Dallas today and in the parking lot at Pappaduex's the truck got pretty hot inside. Now everything is working as usual. I must have a different fob than Burneti - I have a seperate button for lock and unlock and panic.
