Anyone mount 6" speakers in the lower REAR corner of a 70 door? I've seen posts where guys mounted them in the front but I want to keep the map pockets. The window does come down the same in the rear as it does in the from? :meh:

Thanks

Move the map pockets rearwards

Once again I've overlooked the obvious.

Thanks

Don't know what you're planning or the rest of your stereo, but I put 4" speakers in the stock dash spots - it's worked out very well, but i have two 6" drivers and a 10" sub built in to my storage drawer.
If it was just the 4"ers it would likely suck...

Installed mine in the rear, just above the wheel arch but closure to the front seats.

I put 4" 80W Clarion speakers in the stock dash spot and want to put the 6" 150W Alpines I have in the doors. I also have a set of 200W pioneer 6X9's, a set of tweeters, a huge kenwood Amp, two Apline DD Drives (what ever the hell those are) and another set of 4" 40W Alpines. I'm not sure what the plan is but I have all this stuff between the two trucks I've made into one. I'm not a huge stereo guy so I'll have to research it. I'll likely go with the speakers in the dash, the 6" ones in the doors and mount the Amp somewhere out of the way. The rest can go ...... hopefully to someone who understands this stuff and wants to give me a hand. I've rebuilt engines and done several frame offs but I hate wiring and stereos.

I don't have a pic as I sold the truck , but I installed some speakers in the front of my 70 doors, and they mounted slightly inside the map pockets...

basically the map pockets went back on and covered the bottom bit of the speakers

Didn't look weird or anything, worked fine. There's a hole in the framework of the door there that's just about right for speakers, I pretty much centred them on that.

cheers,
ryan

Thanks Ryan.

Hopefully I'll get to it this weekend.

Thats what I'm afraid of.

I realize the 70-series are still in production and parts are easy to come by but I would stray away from cutting door panels to mount speakers.

Usually you can find a better place to mount them which will be less invasive. Cause once you cut the panels, there's no going back without buying new ones.

Why would you want to go back to no speakers

I'm not too worried about the door panels. I just want to make sure the depth of the speakers doesn't interfere with the window when its on the way down first. I'd hate to cut those holes and not have the speakers fit. I'll have to do some careful measuring first.

Just wondered exactly what 4" speakers you installed in the dash location...and if it was a easy direct bolt-in replacement. I have been wanting to replace those in my BJ70 as well.

They came in the JDM truck. My 70 also had a set of aftermarket Alpines in them. Both the Clarions and the Alpines were mounted by using a piece of flat stock for a bracket.

They were Dragsters, and they dropped right in IIRC.
