Ok Randy, I'm curious as to why you need regulators for half doors?
Can you explain the project a little more?

Hey Lane - I have some half door frames welded up and am trying to come up with a secure way of closing the doors and want to use oem hardware if possible. The oem soft door handles frequently open while wheeling due to the body movement and are not the best choice. The oem striker is a good option because it is adjustable. Was thinking that the 60's/70's style door handles and regulators would look good and are beefy enough to take abuse and stay closed. Clear as mud?

It may be overly complicated but it's still a work in progress.

Correct me if I am wrong I thought that the regulator was for the window movement only and had nothing to do with the door lock/opening mechinism.

If this is the case are you just going to us it to make the door more rigid?

Door handles & locks!

You're correct Leaping Dear...thank you. :doh:me! Clear as mud indeed.

I meant door mechanisms and locks. Sorry to confuse.

At least I didn't type flux-capacitor.

Door regulators

Thought I read that somewhere...

Ok, much clearer now! I think we were all thinking about the window
cranks, this makes alot more sense!

I put 72' doors on my 78 fj40 and had to change the stricker as well. your 82 fj40 has the more modern loop type latch. while what you picture up above is the ramp style which also tends to pop open on the trail. btdt. if you have already swapped out your striker for the ramp style then no worries if you haven't you will need those too.
Jason

True Jason, I've been swapping the ramp style and loop style strikers trying to figure the most secure way of closing the doors. I have an old door handle/regulator/ramp striker from NatickDave that I'm using for fittting purposes. We'll see how it goes. Still need to find the parts though.

Thanks for the input.

you could prolly just take the one off of Dave's fj40 and keep it... and if you felt guilty and end up returning it make sure you put it back with a layer of dust on it.

Randy,

What you have pictured looks JUST LIKE the latch on the ambulance doors. I have a few of those but they only come in one "hand". But were I you I would consider using a later door. The early stuff uses that handle that sticks way outa the door. The newer stuff (like the hard door original to your Cruiser) is almost flush to the face of the door. Newer stuff doesn't snag trees, brush and folks standing on the side of the trail. :)

But then I recall you had/have a set of the very nice aluminum doors so you must be bored and need a new project er somethin'. :grinpimp:

Heya Nick,
I managed to locate both left and right side door regulators.

I checked out the later style door handle set up and agree that it would be much lower profile and would not snag on trees/brush. After looking at the hardware and what it would take to fabricate and the fact that they look like 1970's Corrola handles, I decided to go with the the earlier style. I like the classic cruiser look and the simplicity of the hardware. That said, I'll take your name in vain when I rip a handle off in the woods. :grinpimp:

I sold those a while back as I planned on making some.
